the people at the crystal palace made my busy trip more enjoyable.
they made every arrangement to keep me satisfied.
i highly recommend the place.

The Crystal Palace was pretty good. The staff was fairly helpful, and the breakfast was good for being included. For being a four-star hotel, it was a little lacking, though.

The hotel room was spacious, as was the bathroom. But the room itself was a little run down. There were quite a few marks on the walls. There was a fairly sizable roach in the room, but that could have happened anywhere.

The hotel did not have our reservations listed for the correct dates, which lead to a bit of a challenge checking in. But they found their error and everything worked out fine in the end.

The hotel is right in the heart of downtown, so there are plenty of restaurants and sights to see. The location was perfect for the two nights we stayed in the hotel.

They had free internet on a computer in the lobby which was very helpful for keeping in touch.

I would recommend the hotel, but bear in mind the difference in four-star standards.

My wife and I stopped at Montevideo on the way back from Punta del Este. The Crystal Palace is a tired and old hotel. The towels were old and hard. The carpets did not appear clean.

The service was less than helpful. We tried to extend our checkout from 11 a.m. to 12:00 noon and were told abruptly no. We asked them to assist us and change our ferry booking which they said they would do. About 2 hours later they advised me that the ferries were all completely booked. I took a taxi to the ferry terminal and was able to change my booking with little difficutlty. This is unforgiveable for any hotel.

The staff were generally unfriendly and unhelpful. Luckily we had an acquaintance in Montevideo to help us see the city.

The plus side was the rates were reasonable by North American Standards. They did have a buffet breakfast which was not worth the trouble.

A very nice hotel to stay in the old city ... very big and comfortable rooms, with excellent, helpful and professional staff!!!! view of the city from higher up room. Very very very satisfied :)
