“Great view, moldy whiff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

While the rooms looking out to the Rio de la Plata have great views of the river, ours smelled of mold (coming form the a/c), one armchair was broken and the bedlinens might have been washed but still had stains. Overall, I would not recommend the hotel although I am aware that probably many hotels in Montevideo are worse than this one.

“Near old town, but far from Pocitos / Punta Carretas. Expensive for what you get.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2010

Located in the water front, in walking distance from old town and port area (good for day strolls, desert by night). Far from Pocitos and Punta Carretas, where most bars and restaurants are - but easily reacheable by taxi (5-8 eur). Comfortable bed but old bathroom and towels. Pricey for the services offered.

“good location, but run-down and in need of a lift-up”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

Overall dissaponting stay - location is more or less okay during the day - on the Rambla, you can reach Plaza Independencia by foot within 5 mins, but would not dear that walk after dark. Rooms coud be ok if not for the completely run-down bathroom, with a shower head spraying water all over the place but your body, poorly planned (if you slip on the wet floor exiting the shower box - you may have a nasty injury by hiting the sink edge). Towels poorly washed - they all had black and yellow spots and very worn, some had wholes (on the first night - thought I may got these accidentally, but it's been like this the whole stay of 7 nights), same goes for the bed linen. Room floor was poorly cleaned. Request to change the linen not honered.

Service at the reception is smooth though, no complaints on that part; breakfast included and was a good quality; internet terminal available free of charge; small gym on the top floor, poorly equipped.

Overall a dissapointment as normally expect good quality from the NH chain, price was reasonable I must admit (that's the catch!)

“Good location and a bit run down interior”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2010

We only stayed one night at this hotel on our round-trip through Uruguay. The hotel location was very good - only minutes away from both Centro and Puerto, and directly on the Rambla.
The staff were a bit strange. They let us wait for over 30 minutes before checking-in saying that there is a "problem" with our room and they have to see if they can find an alternative hotel for us. Although they never wanted to explain what the problem really was. After over 30 minutes spent at the reception desk, they finally gave us a room. Again no explanation on how come the "problem" disappeared.
Our room was a bit disappointing. It didn't really correspond to what we had previously seen on their web page. The interior was run down and old and the bathroom had black stains on the tiles and around bathtub edges. The towels were old and full of stains.
Breakfast was good, although the air-conditioning in the breakfast restaurant was a bit too strong.

“Not impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

This hotel is all front -the public areas are well presented and clean. The rooms however need a facelift. The air con in our room did not work and despite assurances it would be fixed -it was not. The double glazing was also inadequate. The rooms however were clean but small. The restaurant was good and prices reasonable and the waiting on staff excellent.
Reception staff less helpful.
My advice would be to seek other better recommended hotels. This one is a bland basic mid range hotel and if you are looking for nothing too special its OK. One advantage is that is is close to the centre for sightseeing
