“First night in Uruguay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We landed in Montevideo in the evening, got the rental car and headed, with ease, to P Figari Best Western. Right on the Rambla, the bay across the street. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and inviting after 22 hours of travel and waiting at airports. The bed was wonderful! Our room was off street, second floor with an exceptional view and no noise. What a super introduction to our visit in Uruguay. This is just what we were looking for, a place to stop, gather ourselves and head out well rested and anxious to see this remarkable country.

“One of the Best stays in Montevideo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2011

This was my 2nd visit to Montevideo and my first stay in the hotel. It was recommended to me by some colleagues. I reached very late in the night. The location of hotel is not very far from the airport (about 10 to 15 min by taxi). The staff is very nice and co-operative and speak very good English. It is exactly in front of the beach and the views of beach from all the rooms are spectacular! It is also next to the street where you get all the restaurants and you can also take the bus to the city center (city center is like 25 to 30 min in bus). The rooms are all very neat and clean and contains all the amenities that a modern day traveller needs along with the high speed wifi internet access which is complimentary. Very good choice of buffet breakfast too, but the best part of the hotel is the view of the beach that you get!

“Nice location and close to airport”

We stayed for one night at the Pedro Figari as we had an early morning flight the next day. It is located in Carrasco right on the Rambla and amongst low rise buildings and residential suburb. The area is quieter with less traffic and high rises than Pocitos (I will also be posting a review of The Ermitage, Pocitos).
Even though our confirmation said our room would be available at 12.00 we were told that it would not be ready until 2pm as the hotel was busy (Easter Friday). We accepted this as we could leave our bags and go for a walk, but it is not always easy to spend the time comfortably in your travel clothes, etc. Anyway, I think had the hotel been less busy we would have maybe been able to access the room earlier.
When we did get to the room we found it to be clean and well furnished. I had booked the superior room as I thought it would be more spacious. It was not huge but it had a view of the Rambla and beach across the road. The room was equipped with a shower and tub, mini bar and cable tv. Free internet computer near reception. There is a small lift in the hotel, but not really big enough to accommodate people and luggage at the same time.
Breakfast was included in the rate, but as we were leaving really early we would not be able to have a proper breakfast, but on request the night staff did set up a mini breakfast at 3am in the morning so we could at least set off with something.
From our hotel we were able to walk miles along the beach. We also explored the Carrasco neighbourhood which was nice and peaceful with lots of trees and birds. It reminded us of Australia. Shops and restaurants (including McDonalds) also within walking distance. There is a public toilet just inside an arcade next to McDonalds (important to know when you are not near your hotel room).
It is a lot quicker to get a taxi from here to Carrasco airport than from the Pocitos area and we would definitely stay here again due to its quieter surroundings and less high rise buildings and proximity to the airport.
I found it a lot easier to book my Montevideo hotels through Reservas.com as the prices were sometimes cheaper than the actual hotel website plus it was sometimes difficult to get actual email responses from the hotels.

“Pedro Figari - DIshonest hotel”

I´ve booked my stay for two days at hotels.com (hoteles.com), at a charge of US$ 99,99 a day. At the check-out time, the front desk manager told me that the payment was not registered thru the Internet and that I had to make the payment directly to the hotel. I thought with myself: OK. No problems.
But then came the unfortunate surprise. The payment could only be made in Pesos Uruguaios. American Dollar was not acceptable. Moreover, the exchange rate used was outrageously worse than the one practiced on the marked.
Result: If I were to pay the market value of the US dollar, my stay would be in US$ 99,99 * 18,8 = 1880 pesos. The rate of the hotel was of 21,50 and I had to pay US$ 99,99 * 21,50 = 2150. In this situation I actually paid 2.150 / 18,80 = U$ 114. The front desk manager told me that many guest were complaining about this but the hotels´ administration have done nothing about it. I can only conclude that this is dishonesty. Therefore, I do not recommend the hotel.

“Not a quiet place at night, until after 11:30 pm ...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2011

Every night I stayed here I had to go downstairs and complain about the noise. Some guy was shooting weddings in the lobby with tons of loud guest. Sometimes the night time staff were even louder.

The breakfast in the morning is better than a Continential Breakfast, but not as good as any decent hotels buffets.

The bathroom was difficult to navigate and use. The room, quaint, rustic, but the walls were paper thin.

Overall I would not pay more than $35 per night for this Hotel in the USA. Hotel Six is better.
