“Huge, beautiful rooms in a dodgy town.”

I didn't choose this hotel or location as I was on a guided tour of Peru so although Urubamba is in the center of attractions I wouldn't stay here unless it was purely a resting point. There is nothing in the town. I've stayed here twice and the second time I got a corner room and it was a lot bigger than the other room but in both cases they were quite large. The construction happening right now was a bit bothersome though.

No one spoke English and the restaurant was short and poorly staffed. Would not stay again based on service alone. I didn't appreciate arriving back to the hotel at 5:40 to a closed restaurant with no where around to eat. (It was supposed to serve dinner until 6:00). Then I tried to order room service but they didn't speak English so hung up on me! The entire time I was there the only other people there were Japanese tour groups.

“Good midway point!!”

Perfect place between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Get train from Ollantaytambo so it's cheaper. Clean and cool bathrooms. Good food and great service. Simple but helpful and Internet. Also beautiful church in property and gardens!! Also tours through sacred valley will usually drop you off after your tour. They have to go back to Cusco anyway.

“Excellent Hotel...but location isn't the most convenient.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2010

Excellent Hotel....but location isn't the most convenient. I've also stayed at la Posada Tres Marias on calle Ziron Zavala, which I liked better. Tres Marias is a B&B right in the town center. Staff is extremely friendly. Costs less than San Agustin. They take a long time to respond to reservation requests via email...but, in my opinion it is worth the wait. www.posadatresmarias.com.

“Value hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2010

Although facade did not make a good impression, this hotel is very roomy and comfortable. Restaurant was open at 5 AM to accommodate travelers taking the train to Machu Picchu. Hot food was served.

“Beautiful hotel, beautiful surroundings.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

This hotel is very nice and its surroundings are beautiful. The rooms seems like they have been recently built. The rooms are large and very comfy. There is a swimming pool but I dont really think anyone would be crazy enough to jump in there in the winter. Everyone was very friendly (staff) with us. The only thing I have to say was horrible was the quality of the food we had at the restaurant. That really has to be improved. There really isnt much of anywhere to go at night and its very dark so walking around the small town doesnt seem like a good idea. If you need a place to stay (rest) this place is great, for example if youre on a day trip to ollantaytambo or if youre travelling to machu picchu the next day, that way you save about an hour and a half of the trrain ride if u were to leave from Cuzco.
