We were traveling with an OAT Tour group and thought the hotel in Aguas Calientes would be our worst hotel, but we were wrong. (That hotel was actually great). No sooner had we checked in did we see insects of various types--gnats, fleas, spiders, and many other unknown species. I tried to kill as many as I could with toilet paper but soon realized it would take more than that. I tried to explain to the staff what I needed, but it took a while with the language barrier. Finally someone brought a can of spray and sprayed around the nightstand and left. The bugs kept coming even more so we asked to keep the spray ourselves. We moved both beds and were shocked at the dirt beneath them. We sprayed every inch of the room and finally managed to kill all the bugs. I used wet toilet paper to wipe off the nightstand and the paper turend black, that's how filthy it was. We were told to expect a primitive hotel so I was not bothered by the lack of TV, etc., but I think clean rooms are a must. Even one of the public areas was full of cobwebs. I guess these people fell no need to clean. Not all of the rooms were as buggy as ours was--we had room 113. We could not get into another room as the entire hotel was booked.
