“Awesome place - thanks Jim!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2009

I have only positive things to say about Quinta Patawasi and the experience with Jim & family! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone travelling to Peru.

Our trip:
My friends and I spent 3 nights at this B&B last week, as part of a larger 10 day trip around the country. This was our first trip to Peru, and we wanted our experience in the Sacred Valley to be a memorable one. We are all ~29 year old professionals / grad students who have travelled internationally before, so we have a pretty good idea of what makes a place “stand out”.

* After our stay, we can safely say that Quinta Patawasi = awesomeness.

What we got:
* Lodging (very relaxing and pleasant place, just a few minutes walk from the town of Urubamba, with great scenery all around).

* Transportation (from Cusco Airport in Jim’s SUV; around the Sacred Valley in Jim’s SUV; to/from Machu Picchu via train & bus; return to Cusco via hired taxi).

* Meals (amazing breakfasts & dinners in the dining room complete with more fresh fruit / vegetables / ingredients than we’ve had in quite a while; lunch at fun local eateries when we were out on the road with Jim).

* Tours (knowledgable & fun local guides were arranged at MP, Pisac, Ollantaytambo).

* Logistics (entry tickets and train tickets to Machu Picchu were picked up for us in advance; Jim even printed our boarding passes for our return flight out of Cusco).

* Local wisdom (courtesy of Jim’s extensive knowledge of every place & person from Cusco to Pisac to Ollantaytambo).

* Great conversations (history of the area, memorable experiences with tours & guests, and lively debates on the proper translation of foods and plants in the region - hopefully Jim will now admit that we were right and chirimoya = custard apple!)

* A really fun experience...

Who we got:
Jim is great, friendly, helpful… everything positive that you can think of.

* He is originally from Arequipa Peru, though he lived in California for a number of years (and is a big fan of the Oakland As and SF 49ers, as his shirts will attest). For travelers from the US like us, he was able to provide the perfect balance of local flavor and worldly knowledge.

* Before the trip, Jim was very responsive by email as we had questions and as we were arranging our stay.

* During our trip, he was a fantastic host. Good stories!

* Special note: Late on the night before we flew into Cusco, we emailed Jim because one of our friends had altitude sickness / bronchitis and needed to go to a hospital upon arrival in Cusco. Jim met us at the airport at 9am, and he had already stopped by the local clinic to make sure the right doctor would be in when we stopped by. We can’t say enough about him doing that.

The rest of the Patawasi crew is wonderful too. Antuca (Jim's wife) was charming and was quite a pleasure to dine with every day. And Lucy & Roosevelt brought smiles to our faces and helped keep the B&B in tip-top shape.

Where we were:
The B&B lodge was very nice and comfortable. It was exactly what we needed, balancing out our time in big city Lima with a bit of a rustic feel.

* Rooms were good sized (the four of us had two rooms – each room had two comfortable beds, tons of warm blankets, dresser, tables, bathroom with good hot water).

* Downstairs was relaxing (living room with couch & chairs & Direct TV; dining room with ornate tables & wrought iron decorations; kitchen with pisco sour in the blender!)

* Grounds were beautiful (porch with a mountain view, garden & backyard with lots of flowers & plants).

* Pets were fun (two friendly dogs, four colorful parakeets).

Overall:
I’m planning to visit Peru and the Sacred Valley again within the next few years. And when I do, there is a 100% chance that I’ll be staying at Quinta Patawasi again. I can’t say any more than this.

“Perfect Stay in Sacred Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2009

We spent 6 days in the Sacred Valley, staying at the charming Quinta Patawasi. The host, Jim, a Peruvian American, is warm and accomodating. We used Jim's airport pick up service, and it included an informative intro to Cusco and the Valley, and a stop at a weaving collective en route.

Our room was charming, spotless and very spacious (though watch the low ceilings!) Breakfast was marvellous, with home made preserves and indigenous specialties. We opted to have dinner with Jim four of our six nights (on advance notice), which we throroughly enjoyed each time. Jim recommend daily excursions for us, and was also available to take us on tours if we chose. Don't miss the Sapo game in the courtyard!

The B & B is located in Urubamba, which is great for day trips to Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Cusco and Machu Picchu. We also enjoyed wandering through the rustic town of Urubamba and hiking the hills behind. Excellent value.

“Thank you Jim for a great trip.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2009

We stayed at the Quita Patawasi and had a wonder trip to the Sacred Valley and Machu Piccu. We found this lovely B and B on Trip Advisor and were thankful everyday of our trip. Jim organized everthing from Lima airport pickup, transport to Cuzco, picup at Cuzco airport, train travel ,machu Piccu trip and much more. His friendly personality made us feel like family. We were even invited to a family dinner and made many new friends. The Band B was delightful, clean, good service and in a great location ( easy walk or motorcab ride) into town. We would recommend Jim and Antuca's Quinta Patawasi and travel service to anyone.

“Superb B&B....couldn't have been friendlier....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2009

We just got back from a fabulous stay in Urubamba with Jim @ Quinta Patawasi. We loved this B&B. From the moment we got there, Jim couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful.

The B&B itself is very nice, the grounds are beautiful with lots of flowers/plants etc in a large garden. There is also an outdoor brick oven which i would have loved to tasted some food from.

There are two friendly dogs who roam around the backyard too. I enjoyed playing with them.

The room itself was fine, nice comfortable bed with dresser, table & chairs. The bathroom was fine too.

The breakfasts were excellent, Jim cooked them himself & it was varied each morning. He even got up at 4am to cook breakfast for us before we went to MP.

You eat breakfast in the family area. Lunch & dinner are also available so we enjoyed a day after Christmas dinner with Jim, his wife & their in-laws. It was a nice way to enjoy Christmas despite being far from home.

Jim seems to know everyone in the Valley & organised transport, mountain biking & booked us a hotel in Cusco which also turned out to be a very nice hotel. He recommended a superb restaurant in Urubamba, Tres Keros. Everything he recommended was at a reasonable price too.

The town of Urubamba is 10 minute walk or 50 cent cab ride away. The town is nothing special, but there is plenty of other things to do in the Sacred Valley. Plus the grounds of the B&B are very relaxing especially after a few days in busy Cusco. It is also perfect for a one day trip to MP. Jim arranged transportation to Ollanta for the train in the morning & his driver was waiting at the station when we got back from MP that night.

I did a lot of the planning for this trip myself, but after seeing the extent of Jim's local knowledge, i would use his tour company for future trips.

We were originally going to stay at the Kuychi Rumi based on TA reviews, but Quinta Patawasi was significantly cheaper so we decided to stay there instead and I am delighted that we did.

Highly recommend Quinta Patawasi.

“A sacred place in the sacred valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2008

Was scheduled to spend three nights here, but do to a strike the owner Jim Rogers advised that we spend two so that we would not miss anything scheduled in Cusco. Was a shame because the two nights spent where the best spent in Peru. Jim met us at the air port and served as our driver guide for the time spent in the sacred valley. Made for a wonderful time. The Bed and Breakfast itself could not be beat. Rooms clean, comfortable and with plenty of hot water. (Not something I found every where in Peru.) Jim showed us around his garden a true gardeners delight, pointed out the glacier covered Andes mountains and introduced us to his two dogs. The breakfast and dinners served were some of the best we had on the trip. Entering the gates of Quinta Patawasi was like entering another era. I could not recommend any place higher.
