“A peaceful place”

We stayed in this hotel after spending a couple of days in Machu Picchu. It is a beautiful old monastery that sits within the mountains. It has impeccable gardens and the rooms were great. We were here for two nights and it was a great/peaceful place to rest. The onsite restaurant was wonderful offering many local flavors. The breakfast is also very well stocked.

The staff was very friendly and courteous.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the 400's. They are larger suites.

“Out of the way”

Very quiet setting up a slight hillside off the main Sacred Valley road. Too far to walk into the town and no street lighting after dark made it downright dangerous. Unique rooms in the main part of the old monastery are 2 levels with the beds in a 2nd story loft area. First floor had a small seating area, table & 2 chairs, fridge, TV and bathroom. Water was priced US $3 !! There is no where nearby to buy water so be sure to bring your own (most mini markets sell for 1 or 2 sole). Stayed here for 2 nights as part of our Gate 1 tour.

Room Tip: There are 2 story rooms or single level rooms. Be sure you ask for the appropriate style for your a...

“Wonderful Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

This beautiful old monastery hotel was nice and quiet and we slept very well. It is a 10-15 minute walk into Urubamba. Our room was comfortable. Their breakfast buffet was extensive, they had a toaster available and served over easy eggs. Good selection of breads and fruits. I would have enjoyed spending more time at this hote lbut we were with Gate1 Travel and were only here for two nights.

“slept like a baby!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

I stayed here for only one night during my 15 days in Peru. It is an amazing old monastery located in a gorgeous setting with a lot of history, the staff was exceedingly friendly, my room was beautiful and the food was wonderful. Nothing negative at all. The sweet young lady at the front desk helped me find find my way to Chinchero, Moray and Salinas using the cheapest modes of travel as possible. She even drew me a map and wrote down the prices I could expect to pay for the bus and taxis. The waiter I had at dinner was very kind and patient with my Spanish-speaking skills, or I should say lack of them. At check out time, the gentleman who was at the reception desk gave me a hug. My only regret is that I did not have more time to spend here at this lovely hotel.

“Not worth the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Think we paid way too much for this place as it did not meet expectations. We paid $188 for a suite which was not clean, hairs were all over the bed sheets and in the bathroom pretty off-putting for what we were hoping would be a romantic getaway. The mini bar had two items in the fridge. It is an interesting but small grounds not much to see or do here. There was no hot water when we arrived as well which was irritating having come from Macchu Picchu and desperately needing a shower understandably things happen it was eventually fixed. Staff were nice and accommodating, there is free use of computers and they were good about arranging for transfers although they were pricey. There is nothing outside the hotel grounds to see as it is far from city center so you will need to arrange for transport if the intention is to eat somewhere else other than the hotel.
