This hotel was pretty good, if you are staying in Urubamba then it should be suitable. Rooms were clean, grounds are nice and good views of mountains. Staff friendly to me.

I do agree that it was kind of cold inside, space heaters in the rooms solved that problem pretty well but not in the common areas.

Breakfast was pretty good although again it was cold in that common area. They had over-easy eggs on the buffet which was a first for me (though I saw it again in Cusco).

Best thing I could say about the hotel was the ability to set up a massage. Only $45 for hour massage and I really enjoyed it, perfect for the day before Macchu Picchu. And in cas anyone is wondering the chick was decent looking.

We found this hotel to be an oasis of calm and a complete surprise, hidden behind an unassuming frontage onto the main road. Our room, a corner suite, was absolutely beautiful. The only downside was the food in the restaurant, which we found did not meet the standard we expected and was over salted.

We would recommend this for anyone.... newlyweds or singles. San Augustin had a romantic and tranquil environment. Beautiful grounds, great character and charm inside and out, quality craftsmanship, and clean.


The rooms had beamed ceilings and were warmly designed. The location was central and convenient for seeing the Sacred Valley. The food was excellent, reasonably priced, and the service was fantastic.

The concierge was helpful in calling several cab companies for comparing prices as we hired a driver for the entire day to see the Sacred Valley. (Approximately $35 USD.)

The courtyard had a very peaceful environment with a view of the mountains beyond.

There are two San Augustin Hotels in Urubamba, this one and the Monesterio. We had lunch at the Monesterio, and it was excellent, but didn't stay there. This hotel (non-monesterio) was quite nice for an overnight stay, with a pool which looked clean and inviting (but our suits were left behind in Cusco to await our return from Macchu Pichu). The room was clean and pleasant, and our plug in heater worked quite well in keeping the room comfortable during a chilly night. The grounds of the hotel are well kept also. The major downside to the hotel was that the breakfast was not good. There was a lot of food offered, but it was almost uniformly bad, from the coffee to the cereal to the bread products. In contrast to the front desk personnel, who were helpful and pleasant, the man running the dining room for breakfast was surly and unpleasant. Perhaps he had a bad morning, but it soured our short stay.
