The location of this hotel is ideal, right in the train station. The noise of the trains didn't bother us at all. The room was large, pretty basic, but just fine. We liked spending some time sitting on the porch looking at the garden and listening to the birds. The restaurant was good and breakfast was made to order (eggs or pancakes). The staff was very nice. There was a problem with the water supply that wasn't their fault. Something about the pipes in the river. It didn't spoil our time there but it would have been a real problem if we had stayed longer.

If you need to be constantly linked in, you will find the free wifi in the rooms at El Albergue a welcome link to the outside world. However, your visit to this charming rustic hotel will not be disturbed by television, because the rooms don't have one. Instead, you will be forced to throw open your windows and breathe in the fresh air while taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The hotel is located at the Peru Rail station in Ollantaytambo. My room near the back of the property was unmolested by passing trains, although it might be an issue for other rooms closer toward the front. The combination of outgoing employees, good meals, comfortable beds, charming gardens and rich scenery helped me forget the tribulations of cancelled trains and other bumps in the road during my journey. An oasis in the bustling motion of the train station.

We didn't know what to expect especially when we had to walk past the train entrance gate with our luggage to the hotel (where cars cannot go). However we were welcomed and checked right in with no hassle for a mere 75 bucks. Our room was one of the garden rooms and had two nice comfy beds and opened right out to a garden with a terrific view of sno-cap mountains. We stayed in and ate at the delicious restaurant then in the morning woke up right in front of our train to macchu picchu giving us time until the very last minute to relax before boarding the train. Owners are two brothers super nice. After macchu picchu we stayed here again to relax and check the town of ollantaytambo good pizza and go to gansos for some local vibe and drinks. Definitely stay at this hotel!

This is right on the VistaDome platform as you walk off, so pretty easy to find!
Walk through reception into the back area and its set up as cantina style blocks with a nice courtyard sitting area.
The rooms are big as are the beds.

We had a few problems - the amount of flies in the room (may have been time of year?) was excessive and off putting. And we arrived on the last train so it was getting on, by the time we unpacked the kitchen was closed, 9pmish, and wouldn't do us food, the restraunts in the very small town were closing by the time we got up there at 10pmish so we had to resort to bags of crisps for dinner! Poor show!

Otherwise, as a hotel it was nice, breakfast was very good.
