“OK Hotel but a little distance from shops & restaurants.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

Hotel was clean & tidy and in a quiet street but with minimal staff and not that handy to shops & restaurants. Does not have a lift and the small ground floor café where a basic Peruvian breakfast is served is quite small so can become crowded. We stayed a night each at the start & finish of a tour which was OK but for a longer stay would prefer more resources.

Room Tip: The newer rooms on upper floors are fine if the lack of a lift is not a problem.

“no working toilet!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2011

The toilet did not work for almost the whole stay until the last 15mins of the stay.
It had been reported many times to the receptionist but they seem to forget the inquiry and only got it fixed after speaking with the manager. The receptionist, Karla was particularly rude, defensive and unhelpful.
Given the other choices in the area, I would stay away from this establishment.

“simple hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

Stayed here with a group of friends before and after a volunteer program. There is a big difference between the rooms with the double bedding and the rooms with the twin beds. The twin or triple rooms are newer and fairly spacious and nice. The older rooms are cramped and feel very dated. So I would recommend asking for the newer rooms. The breakfast is a typical south american bread roll with jam. Try asking for some cheese it makes it better. There is a computer in the lobby with internet and skype. There is free wifi throughout the hotel however it is not always working so great. Close to a road where there are trucks driving through at night, so sometimes is noisy. On a more positive note it is within an easy walk of the centre of Miraflores, a good place to get food and do shopping. It is much safer than the central area of Lima. I would recommend it for a short stay. It is fairly comfortable, TV with cable and the staff are helpful.

“Decent location and clean rooms, light sleepers beware”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2009

We stayed at El Faro for two nights. The rooms are very small, but relatively clean - the sheets/towels are freshly washed and changed daily, but the carpet could use more cleaning. The showers had some of the best pressure I've seen in Peru, but on the day we were leaving, the hot water ran out fast and didn't return. Location is pretty nice, the hotel is in a quieter residential area but still only a short walk (10-15mins) away from the restaurants and cafes of Miraflores. Free WiFi in the room a big plus, and the staff is very professional, with someone staffing the desk 24 hours/day. Breakfast is very simple - coffee/tea and bread with butter and jam. Now, for the negatives: it is not the quietest hotel: even with the windows closed, I was woken up several times during the night by car honking/dogs barking/and finally, construction. Also, the light from the corridor enters the room and its brightness also bothered me.
Overall, the hotel is a decent deal given the price (we paid $45/night), but I think you can find something better.

“Good value, nice safe neighborhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2009

We stayed in two different rooms here. One on the third floor with external window - it was quite small but clean with good high speed internet access, cable TV, hot water, and secure parking. We also stayed in a bigger room on the first floor that was good except we it was kind of noisy in the morning. $30 since we stayed for a while.
