Having traveled to Peru countless times, I made plans to travel with a group of five people in May of 2011. I wanted to stay in Barranco as it promised good restaurants, nightlife and an interesting insight to Lima's aspiring art scene. I chose One Hostel because of it's location, price, and pictures that I viewed on their site.
We arrived late at night and were warmly welcomed by Melissa who showed us to our rooms. The well decorated hostel was much different from experiences during my backpacking days in the 80's. Clean and comfortable, we immediately felt quite at home in our Lima lodging. This place was more like a family inn and the word "hostel" didn't suit it properly. I found it to be a notch above the typical travelers hostels I have experienced. Melissa, her parents and the rest of the staff took wonderful care of us during our stay. After traveling to Cusco, we returned to One Hostel even though I could have had a heavily discounted rate through my company at the Marriott Lima.We wanted to have the friendly and cozy feel that One Hostel provided.
Since my stay in May, I have sent two different groups Melissa's way and they absolutely loved the place. I can say that our experience and theirs were positive in every way. I will return to Peru in the future and will certainly stay here again and I would highly recommend it to other casual travelers.
