“One night in EL DUCADO”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

The hotel was booked by the tour company, the rating was accurate as a 2* .
The central location makes it ideal for exploring Miraflores.
The check in was handled by my guide, however the receptionist was on the phone the entire time only pausing to give instructions.
The room was a single hence small as expected however there was no character to this room.
The shower was poor and water was quiet cold.
It was quiet noisy due to the location,
It was unfortunate that there was an explosion in the middle of the night in the buidling right opposite the hotel.
We all evacauted to the back of the hotel in the courtyard. There was no direction or information from the hotel personnel the main preoccupation was cleaning the mess as there was damage to the windows.
Breakfast was very basic a little bread and jam with coffee and juice.
I was moved to a different hotel in the morning by the tour company.
I was ripped off on my way out when the price of the bottle of water i had bought was increased when i asked to pay in dollars a fact made known to me by my driver.
All in all not a very good experience.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms towards the back/ other building

“Good hotel and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

We stayed with my family (10 people) in El Ducado for around 15days and found it to be of good quality with a cute patio to spend time outside. Everything from breakfast to room quality is a good standard. The downside is there is no elevator, and the reception employees could be quite unhelpful. Good location, close to Larco Mar and for what we wanted it was good. If asked we would recommend to friends

“Hotel El Ducado, Lima, Peru”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

Although Lima is far from my favourite place (too big, busy and noisy), this hotel is in a nice area of Lima next to the coast - MIraflores (if you like shopping centres and lots of people, especially at the weekends). It was such a contrast to Cuzco and surroundings! Anyway, the hotel is basic as far as I am concerned, and the staff (apart from one waiter) are most unfriendly. It does not warrant its star rating or its price. It can also be noisy depending on what room you are allocated. Go elsewhere but if you do stay there ask for a rooom at the back or you may get disturbed sleep. I also had a dispute with the charge for the room (agreed by email, whcih I had with me) but disputed at the desk. In the end I did get the rate I agreed after discussion.

Room Tip: A room at the back of the hotel - if you are at the front you may be over the entrance (VERY noisy...

“Reasonable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Having just spent two weeks in Peru with my partner, we have found the “star” rating of hotels in the country to be extremely unreliable. The variability between the 3* hotels we stayed in was enormous: some were no better than a basic hostal, others more like a luxurious 4*. You must be aware of it upon booking. Generally the price of a hotel is a better guide to the level of accommodation you will receive. I would also recommend that, if you’re planning on staying 3 or more nights in a particular city/town, book only the 1st night and if you like it, extend, if you don’t look and shop around. We found that most nice hotels are willing to give discounted rates and often have spaces.

El Ducado is:
- Well positioned in the Miraflores district (near restaurants etc).
- Has good room sizes, though if you ask for a double you get a 135cm bed (a bit small for us!).
- Nice common areas (especially patio).
- Dated look and decor by European standards.
- Reasonable value for money given how expensive other Lima hotels are.

“Small but lovely”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Our room at El Ducado was one of the smallest rooms we've ever stayed in but it was fairly clean and comfortable. The hotel is located in a nice neighborhood in Miraflores and we felt safe walking around at night. The hotel breakfast was plentiful and quite good. The hotel has no bar but there is a convenience store a few blocks away and we were welcome to sit in the dining room and enjoy our beers. There is no elevator so make sure you get a lower floor if you have a problem taking the stairs.

The staff was very nice and helpful. There is only one public computer available and unfortunately there are no time limits enforced. Luckily, we had our iPhones with us and were able to access the internet via the hotels complimentary wifi.
