“BEWARE: UNSAFE PLACE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2010

A total amount of US$ 900 was stoled from me at two recent stays at the Inka Lodge. When I was out, someone entered in my private room, violated the locker of my bag and took part of the money that was inside.
It important to register that this ocurred in two short stays at the Inka Lodge, separated from each other bya a period of one week. First I came to the lodge on Nov 30´2010 and stayed till Dec. 2´2010 . At this time, was stoled the amount of USS 400. I only noticed it when I left the lodge and I thought I had lost the money. One week after, on Dec. 09, I came back to the hostal. I lefted US$ 1100 locked inside my bag and when I checked the money two days after, threre was only US$ 600: as the US$ 400 of my fistr stay,US$ 500 had been stolen. Then I noticed the violation of the locker of my bag.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

I even phoned then from Brazil, and asked then about the Hostel they forgot mention that they were under refurshiment, messy place, well located, the lady that works there doen's know anything about Peru, can get you a simple advice, made me feel lost, breakfast is simple but okay, and miraflores is very safe at the day time!

“Terrible service and pricing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

Overall the hostel itself was clean and its amenities were pretty good. Drinkable water, all day coffee and it was clean, were all pluses, but the service and pricing system made it one of the worst hostels we've ever stayed at in a 6 month trip.
First off, the prices and reservation system they use are terrible. We had done a bit of research and looked up their prices online before we arrived. We didn't book because they do reservations through hostelworld.com and we wanted to avoid a service charge (why pay when you can go there yourself?) However once we arrived, we found that the prices they charge to at the door visitors were almost double their internet rates. When we asked to have the internet rates, they said the only way they could give them to us is if we sit down at their public computers and make a reservation through hostelworld.com making the person working at the desk essentially useless. Next, we lost one of our party (she left to go back home) and instead of three, we were two. But could they give us an internet rate for a double? Nope. So once again we had to book online for the double (and pay another $2 fee to secure the cheaper internet rate). We did this the night before we needed the double. Then to our surprise when we asked to move to the double the next day, they told us it wasn't available! Why did we make a reservation if they can't take it? Apparently their system is so slow that they didn't receive the reservation and when another couple walked in, they gave it to them. To top it all off, they said it was all our fault that this had happened because after making the booking online we didn't walk downstairs and tell them that we made the booking!
Which brings me to their service. They were rude at the best of times and seemed unable and unwilling to address any complaints we had about their system. It is quite infuriating to be told that a glaring error is your fault.
Overall, if you must stay here, don't try to do anything outside the norm and don't ask anything of the staff, they'll probably just tell you they can't do anything and direct you to the computer.

“Fine hostel, but room was near kitchen far from bath”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

The Inka lodge put us in a double room that is right off the kitchen. At 7am we were woken up by people eating breakfast. Even worse, the non-private baths were through the kitchen and dining room, so we had to walk through them half awake to go to the bathroom. The lodge was clean and secure however, and the breakfast was fine.

“The worst place I stayed in South America”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2010

Incredibly unfriendly staff, only one bathroom for the whole downstairs floor, a live worm crawling around my breakfast bread basket, the slowest internet ever experienced, you cannot let yourself in and out and incredibly over priced. My room had no windows and was on the other side of a very noisy air compressor that turned on and off every 5 minutes. The staff were unsympathetic and refused to move. Avoid this place.
