“Definitely our second home on the next Peru visit.”

My wife and I stayed at Second Home on our recent Peru trip, for two nights at the start of the trip and one at the end. We loved the place! Great location in the Barranco district, nice safe neighborhood on the clifftops overlooking the ocean. The house is still the home of legendary artist Victor Delfin and his art is everywhere, paintings, sculptures. Any art enthusiast will love it. We were also treated to a visit to Victor Delfin's studio downstairs. The place is run by Victor Delfin's daughter, all the staff were wonderful. Breakfast was included in the price and was very good.
For 55 soles, they'll pick you up from Lima airport also, I'd recommend this since the airport can get pretty hectic with cab drivers and miscellaneous people hustling and offering their services.

“Forget the Marriott--This is THE Perfect Place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Don't think twice, just go. My wife and I, together with our two grandchildren, had the pleasure of visiting Second Home Peru in late December, 2011. You know it's special when you are greeted by the Delfin family owners and made to feel at one with them. We shared two large two-story cliff-hanging rooms with perfect unobstructed views of the Pacific and constantly marveled at the changing light and sounds of the roaring ocean. Hour-long Christmas Eve fireworks up and down the coastline were an unexpected treat from our terrace. Our breakfasts in the family kitchen were plentiful and fun. Best of all was chancing upon the studio of famed artist Victor Delfin and actually spending time with him. With his son translating,hHe welcomed us graciously. His artwork surrounds the home outside and graces every inside public room. His gallery connected to the studio was a feast to enjoy. So much so, that we couldn't resist purchasing a very special sculpture for our home as a wonderful memory of a very special experience. You can always stay at a Marriott (or the like), but this place is both unique and special in all respects.

“Worth the distance!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Second Home Peru is located in Barranco, nearly one hour's drive from the airport, but definitely worth the distance. Taxi ride is 50 soles (about $20.) Behind the tall, secure walls that surround the grandiose property, the grounds are a testament to the work of one of Peru's premier artists, Victor Delfin who still lives and works in his workshop on the property. Once the Delfin family home, the main house is now a bed and breakfast run by daughter Lillian Delfin. There is an art gallery on the first level (open to guests but open to the public by appointment only). Take time to read the book about Delfin and his work displayed on the coffee table on the second level sitting area. You'll get a sense of the artist's passion and purpose. Lillian will treat you to a personal tour of her father's unique work area and introduce you to Victor Delfin himself, Guest rooms are very spacious, comfortable and simply decorated. Our room had a separate bathroom with a full shower. And in the adjoining room, a separate old-fashioned bathtub. Ask for a room on the second level facing the ocean and you'll get a room with a balcony that opens to a resplendent view of the ocean and, if the weather permits, a beautiful sunset. Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to noon in the kitchen in a small building adjacent to the main home. Delfin's art surrounds you--from the iron-work grates on the hearth in the kitchen, to the large paintings that adorn every wall, to the larger-than-life sculptures on the grounds. The rooms and the grounds are meticulously clean. A welcoming staff--from the taxi driver to the office team (and 2 black lab retrievers) to the maintenance crew --all there to make sure you have a memorable visit. Lillian can make recommendations about what to see and where to eat. Second Home is just a block away from a small plaza in the heart of Barranco where you'll find good restaurants and a lively night life with walking musicians singing "Flor de Canela"--a tribute to the famous Peruvian singer-songwriter, Chabuca Granda, born in Barranco. Away from the hustle and bustle of Lima, Second Home is just a short taxi ride away from Miraflores and major museums and other tourist venues, including Mr. Delfin's monumental sculpture in the Parque del Amor. All in all, Second Home is more than just a warm and friendly bed and breakfast--it offers a unique peak into the soul of Peru through the eyes of an artist.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor with an ocean view.

“Best Neighborhood in Lima, Beautiful Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We had a wonderful visit at Second Home Peru. It is a breathtaking property, with incredible views and art throughout. It was the perfect place for our family of four. The owners and staff
were very helpful and the breakfast served each morning was just right.

“Lovely building, room, art, sculpture, staff, breakfast.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Its not close to the airport, but it is in a nice area, with some shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. This was only a stopover for us, so I can't comment on anything else regarding location as we didn't venture out or do anything touristy.

This coastal area in this part of Lima is not overly attractive, there is alot of construction going on, and when that's finished it will be quite nice. The view from our large room was nice, the garden below full of sculpture and the sea beyond. It was lovely, and quiet. We had a shared balcony, but the bedroom had large french door, which could be opened up, so we didn't use the balcony.

Can't believe I didn't take any photos of the room, sorry; it was large, full of interesting art, quiet. Bed was large and comfy, bedhead made from an old cast iron fence which was cool. The bathroom is part of the room, with a dividing wall, but no door, but is very nice and spacious, the shower does not have much pressure though. Tea coffee etc all present and correct. The included breakfast was served in their kitchen, which was very cool, and it was very nice. They accommodated us having to leave before usual breakfast time which was nice. Staff were all very pleasant.

The rest of the building was very nice and interesting, full of art and sculpture. Overall I can't really fault anything, maybe the price was bit high, but not over the top. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Facing the ocean on the upper floor.
