“You get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

Needed a place to stay in Lima for a night with some friends and fortunately they had an opening for us here. We stayed in the dorms with a few other people. The rooms were clean enough but the beds were not too comfortable. They felt old. The showers were impractical. There was no where I could put my toiletries while I bathed and the showers had cracks on the side so anyone could easily peek which was not good. Breakfast was nice, fresh bread and fresh squeezed juice and the teas were nice. It is located very close to big parks and the beach with a lot of restaurants which was a plus. The staff were nice and welcoming and readily available to help out any queries. The wifi was fast but only worked in certain places. It would have been better if it were accessible from everywhere.

“Lovely building, shame about the bedrooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

When we walked into Home Peru we were pleasantly surprised. The building looks a little rundown on the outside (although they were painting the exterior while we were there, so it looked better when we left!), but on the inside the main building is large and decorated with original items. Antonio on reception was incredibly helpful and a really lovely guy. He helped us to book our onward bus tickets and generally made us feel really welcome.

The downside was definitely our room which was small and cramped with nowhere to put our things. There was no undersheet on the bed and the sheets that were there were thin and a little grubby looking. The room was also suffering from a damp smell that we couldn't get rid of. It's not possible to leave the window open if you're not in the room, so we had to deal with the smell the whole time we were there. The shower was great the first morning, really great pressure and plenty of hot water, but the next morning we ended up waiting 2 hrs for a shower because there was some sort of problem with the hot water. We think it was just used by other guests, but the lady on reception kept telling us to wait 10 minutes... for about an hour which was disappointing. We felt for the price that the room really wasn't great.

The location of the hotel was ok, a 15 min walk to the main square in Miraflores and probably 30 mins to the beach. We didn't mind so much and it was a bit closer to the old town and the bus stations.

Breakfast was provided which was good, coffee, tea, juice and pretty nice warm bread rolls.

There is wifi, but it doesn't work in all of the rooms (not ours).

“Good basic accomodation in central location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

Located near Plaza Vea on Arequipa, just uptown on the corner from the Alliance Francaise. The best feature of the location is that the Arequipa combis are easy to take between the center and Miraflores. Expect traffic noise, although my single room wih private bath was in the back and on the side street and not very noisy. I got water but waited a long time for it to arrive. No bedbugs were seen or felt. Mattress was comfortable. Includes use of kitchen and fast internet, common luggage storage. Friendly staff. Quite a beautiful old mansion inside although the outside is a bit rundown. Does not include airport pickup. Recommended if you are on a budget and want a central location. Dog onsite.

“Very Friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2009

I would like to let people know that this is a hostel not a hotel so for those expecting the luxury of a "hotel" it would be disappointing. For those of us who frequent hostels, this is a nice place. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the location was good, and the room was a hostel room. I'd definately stay again!

“Just Don't”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2009

My mother, brother, and I arrived at about 1:00 AM. They were generous in that they let us put the rental car in the garage, but we had a horrible room

We had a dormitory style room, which was ok, because we were the only people in it. However, the beds were nasty. I swear I saw a bed bug on one. Also, there are bodily indentions in the mattresses and I'm not sure the sheets are ever changed. I slept with my clothes on and I was afraid to put my bag anywhere.

When I got up in the morning, I encountered the "magic toilet". I went to the bathroom and I was kind of sleepy, so I took my time. By the time I got up, I didn't have to flush. The toilet kept running. I also think it was leaking on the floor. I opted not to take a shower because it was kind of going in that direction. I could not process that kind of magic that early in the morning, so I just dubbed it the "magic toilet". I woke up my mom and brother and begged to get out of there.

To sum it up, don't stay here, it's dirty.
