When we walked into Home Peru we were pleasantly surprised. The building looks a little rundown on the outside (although they were painting the exterior while we were there, so it looked better when we left!), but on the inside the main building is large and decorated with original items. Antonio on reception was incredibly helpful and a really lovely guy. He helped us to book our onward bus tickets and generally made us feel really welcome.
The downside was definitely our room which was small and cramped with nowhere to put our things. There was no undersheet on the bed and the sheets that were there were thin and a little grubby looking. The room was also suffering from a damp smell that we couldn't get rid of. It's not possible to leave the window open if you're not in the room, so we had to deal with the smell the whole time we were there. The shower was great the first morning, really great pressure and plenty of hot water, but the next morning we ended up waiting 2 hrs for a shower because there was some sort of problem with the hot water. We think it was just used by other guests, but the lady on reception kept telling us to wait 10 minutes... for about an hour which was disappointing. We felt for the price that the room really wasn't great.
The location of the hotel was ok, a 15 min walk to the main square in Miraflores and probably 30 mins to the beach. We didn't mind so much and it was a bit closer to the old town and the bus stations.
Breakfast was provided which was good, coffee, tea, juice and pretty nice warm bread rolls.
There is wifi, but it doesn't work in all of the rooms (not ours).
