Hostel Esperanza was a solid 3 star hotel; clean room with a closet and a safe, a large comfortable bed, private bathroom with a shower, no problems. The hotel had one computer for internet downstairs, a simple restaurant serving breakfast only, security gate at the front enterance, and the option of leaving baggage there in a secured room while I was out doing my volunteer work for 4 weeks. Hostel Esperanza is located in Miraflores, (a district of Lima). There is shopping, a huge selection of restaurants, banks and daily activities all within a very short walking distance. The best part was that this area is very safe. As a single young white female I thought I would be more nervous since I was alone, but I felt very safe in Miraflores going out for supper after dark by myself.
I am a student who traveled to Peru for July and August of 2010. As a frsh traveler with little experience I was looking for a trip with organization and structure. From July 17-Aug 15 I was doing some volunteerwork in the jungle that was headed by a conservation organization, hence that portion of my trip was organized on it's own, seperate from my traveling for tourism. For my initial arrival in Lima, and for Aug 15- Sept 2nd I was looking for a hotel, and for a tour co-ordinator to plan my travels within Peru to all the sights and locations I wanted to visit. And of course I was looking for a fair price. I first contacted Max in February 2010 to start my travel plans for July and August 2010.
I found Max through reviews like this one online which commented on his superior ability to help the guests of his hotel "Hostel Esperanza" with their traveling aspirations. I contacted Max, who sounded very friendly and spoke good English, and the planning began.
As for the tourism part of my traveling: Max made this easy. He arranged for us several taxi pick up at the Lima airport with someone holding a sign with my name. Also all our buses, plane tickets and tours in: Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Puno including a home stay in the Titicaca Lake, Cusco, Inca Trail with stay in Aguas Calientes and a MOST excellent Tour to Puerto Maldonado in the peruvian protected jungle.
I know I would not have been able to travel this cheaply if I had tried to plan it all on my own and it was much cheaper then any of the other organized tours I found. I was also very glad that I gave lots of time to the planning and organizing of my trip (5 months prior to my arrival). The entire itinerary was easy to follow, everything I hoped for and turned out better than I had expected. I feel I have Max to thank for my wonderful experience in Peru.
Salut!
