The Antara is a very attractive , comfortable hotel in a good location in Miraflores, just a short walk to Kennedy Square and close to shops, and restaurants. We were booked to stay for two nights but because of a snafu in the reservations they put us up for the first night in the El Condado Apartment Hotel across the street, which we also recommend. To compensate us for the trouble this caused us, the hotel management gave us a free dinner in their restaurant, which was a nice gesture and turned out be a very good meal.
The Antara’s lobby is small but very attractive, decorated in a stylish Spanish Colonial motif – whitewashed walls, lots of timber, antiques everywhere. Adjoining the lobby is the small attractive hotel restaurant where we had dinner and breakfast buffet. The dinner menu for the restaurant was extensive and reasonable, but there are lots of eating alternatives in the area surrounding the hotel as well.
The front desk staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful, and spoke adequate English.
Our room (#508) was quite spacious, with a comfortable king bed, lots of storage and counter space. The colonial motif was tastefully carried out with updated additions of large, tasteful artwork incorporated into plaster frames built into the walls. The a.c./heating unit was powerful and quiet. Oddly, only the fan speed – not the temperature– could be varied.
Separate from the bathroom proper, there was a large vanity area with one sink and lots of counter space. However, the sink was set far back from the front of the counter, making it somewhat awkward to use. The toilet and tub/shower were in an adjoining room, and the tub was also equipped with Jacuzzi jets (we didn’t try this feature, however).
Overall we recommend the Antara highly – it seemed very good value to us, and the location couldn’t have been better.
