As a novice travel consultant and with everyone wanting to travel today, it is still very important to find economical, clean, safe places, I wanted to stay at Hostal Jose Luis to see if I could help others have a great vacation in Miraflores area without spending alot of money for a good nights sleep. I had heard great things about this hostel from family and thought I should see for myself. This hostel was a great surprise! It was very inexpensive (I don't mean cheap), it was MEMORABLE - a home away from home. Comfortable - extremely clean, with fresh linens, toiletries, and best of all, the rooms are PRIVATE.
I've stayed at two hostels in the United States. In both, you had to be willing to share your room, dressing area, and bathroom/shower with strangers. The location of the hostel is close to everything - shopping, restaurants and not too far from the ocean. Call to order and eat in, or enjoy the beauty of Miraflores before relaxing in your room.

It's very apparent the owners have taken the time to make this a comfortable place in Miraflores that one can feel at home (away from home). It's very apparent how much the staff enjoy working at this unique hostel. Smiles are always there to greet you coming in and the first thing in the morning as you enjoy a Continental breakfast with fresh baked rolls, preserves, and butter.

I will definitely return. I give this hostel and it's staff 5 stars.

Room Tip: I really can think of any room there that couldn't be considered the best room. Private and sou...

“BE WARNED - Worst hotel ever!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2011

DO NOT STAY HERE! This hostal looks nothing like their web site. My 3 friends and I spent 16 days in 5 different cties in Peru, and this was by far the worst (and most expensive) hostal we stayed at. Here's a summary of my experience:
- The hotel was under construction; I was woken up at 7:00am by the construction crew and their machinery.
- There was a musty odor in my room and my sheets smelled like athletes foot
- In the middle of my hot shower, the water turned freezing cold. Faucet had no hot water even though the hostal claims they have hot water 24/7
- The walls are very thin and you can hear everything
- The layout of the hostal is bizarre; there are narrow stairs, rooms randomly located throughout the place; windows that won't close (no privacy).

Although the owner was very friendly, I would never recommend this hostal to anyone nor would I ever stay here again. I would seriously rather sleep at the airport.

“Very friendly, very quiet and wonderful place to stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2009

I was extremely pleased with the people at Hostal Jose Luis. I was lucky that I was the only one in my room, and it was clean and comfortable. The location was excellent, I could walk to the main areas of Miraflores and the steet and area were clean and felt very safe. Most of all the people were friendly and helpful! I would stay there again if I were to be in Lima!

“Never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2007

Yes, it is Miraflores, which is the place to stay in Lima, but there are plenty of other hostal/hotels to stay in. Avoid this place. As mentioned previously, the rooms are dingy, bathrooms are grimy, and I never felt secure. When I arrived late at night, the first they showed us had an open balcony which would not close (and it faced the street). I demanded that they figure out how to close it and if not I wanted another room. Finally, after arguing, they agreed and moved me to the bunk bed room which had 6 beds in it which seemed like they stuffed in a closet. Still, I decided to take that over the unsafe option1. The towels are like rags and are not replaced everyday, but they also don't dry properly (i.e eww). Does the staff speak english? hah, not much, luckily my friend speak spanish.

There is 1 computer with free internet, but yes it is slow and doesn't seem to always work. I used it just to send short emails. Breakfast is meager: bread, jam, coffee/tea. The hostal is about a 10min walk to the parc Kennedy area.

Overall, there's no way I would ever stay here again. Pay the extra $5-10 for a better experience.
