Pretty nice and quiet hostel about 30 minutes from the Lima International Airport. Our flight was cancelled on us and we also forgot to inform the hostel before we left, the driver still found our right flight number and waited for us at the gates. The driver spoke minimal english but a few of the staff were completely fluent. The hostel was very friendly, helpful and welcoming when we arrived past midnight.
We received a room on the second floor with two connecting rooms -- 1 matrimonial & 1 single bed sharing a private bathroom. The beds were comfortable, rooms were clean but it was a little bit chilly at night. It is their winter at the moment (End of July/August), so just bring a sweater to goto bed in. Heating seems to be lacking (but that is typical in almost all hostels in Peru unless you are paying some five star hotel. it really isn't that bad at all. Heating might be lacking but this definitely wouldn't stop me from returning to this hostel.
Hot water was plentiful and breakfast was also served at 7:30am as promised. Don't expect anything gourmet, breakfast was just bread with ham, cheese, jam, margarine with freshly squeezed juice, instant coffee and/or coca tea. (Drink the coca tea if you are leaving for Cusco) :)
The hostel also has two functional computers and wi-fi access. Wi-fi worked perfectly fine in our rooms as well on the second floor and all around the hostel.
The only issue I can see some people might find of a concern at this place was the bed sheets felt a little bit "sticky" as if humidity had got to them which doesn't phase me as they do not have dryers but hang dry their items up on the roof. I had my own sheet so i just lined the bed before sleeping (that was just me being picky about my travelling -- I would've slept in it even if I didn't have my own bed sheet). I'm not too picky, I just needed a place to stay and also where I could get some shut eye safely - this was a good place, also just by the coast as well.
Our stay was short-lived as it was only a stop over for our next flight to cusco but for $26 that included pick up/drop off safely at the airport and a room, this is a really nice place to stay.
TEMPERATURE IN AUGUST 2011:
Reviewers don't mention the weather much I noticed. I arrived in jean shorts, and a merino wool hoodie. I felt a bit chilly but manageable. Comparable to the warmer fall nights in Toronto if you can relate :)
Special clothing note worth mentioning:
Merino wool was my lifesaver for all sorts of weather in peru. If you have or haven't heard of merino wool, try looking into it and invest in a clothing item. I highly support icebreaker (brand) as I recently purchased one right before my trip due to the difference in weather changes from day and night as well as the different altitudes I was going to experience on my trip. It kept me warm, cool and odourless!! despite sweating up a storm on the inca trail and sweating to death in the jungle -- all without having to wash it for at least 1.5 weeks before the clothing saw clean water.
