“again there and still love it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

we spent a night there and i liked it as usual! the only thing that wasn't so great was the noise, but well everywhere in peru is noisy!
the transfer from the airport to the hotel was in time and even waited for us long time!
the reception woman was friendly and the room with private bath excellent!
love the terrase ! will be back again and again!

“Great location and great potential”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

This magnificent property in the middle of old Lima could be so good with a bit of love and insect repellant. Close to all the palaces and main museums it is terrific for the young - or just physically able - as getting up and down the stairs with your suitcases was quite a chore for us 50+ers. Laundry and tour operators very close. Taxi costs to and from this hostel were very reasonable and should be considered. A pecock and peahen occupy the open space on the third floor, as do a couple of macaws.

Room Tip: Avoid the fourth floor - it was very difficult with suitcases.

“unique atmosphere with handy location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

based on rrrip advisor reviews I decided to stay in central Lima around the plaza de armas. This hotel is in a great location and the Senora was able to organise great value tours, including a private car to Nasca and flight return same day) for just over 300 USD - as much (or less) as other companies wanted to charge for the bus!

Sure its noisy and my room was outside a shared bathroom (ironic as i had my own bathroom) but with the fan going I slept really well. I couldn't get much warmth out of the shower but its so hot there who cares (would have been an issue if i was in Cusco!)

Yep I'd stay here again :-)

“Good and reasonable hotel in the city center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The decision to stay in the city center was based on our plan to take the train to Huancayo. From Hotel Espana the main station is only two blocks away, and nearly all the cultural sights in the city center area are in walking distance.
I have read many so-so reviews of Hotel Espana before but decided to give it a try and didn’t regret it. The hotel is a fascinating old colonial building with all the classic furniture in it. You might think that you are in a museum rather than a hotel. Furthermore there are some turtles and birds as house pets to enjoy

Prices are really moderate, we took a double room on the roof level for about 20 $. Breakfast not included. Unfortunately reservation by internet was not possible. There was no reaction on sending emails so I called the hotel a few days before from Arequipa and luckily someone was at the phone who spoke a little English and confirmed availability.

The double rooms are small but have all necessary facilities including TV. Wifi was working as well. Our room was not facing to the street but to the inner court of the roof level where the breakfast took place each morning. So it was impossible to sleep a little bit longer as we heard people talking while eating.

Staff was great, except an old lady which seemed to be the owner. Don’t expect any help from her as she doesn’t speak English very well and is only interested in your money and quite unfriendly. So better stay away from her. Quite handy is the travel desk: you can easily make reservation for any bus travel or trip in and around Lima from there.

All in all this hotel was a great and cheap basis to explore the historical centre of Lima and and a great choice for staying two nights

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

We spent one night in a double room with private bathroom. Unfortunatly, our room was right in front of a shared bathroom, and the noise light isolation between this shared bathroom and our room was poor, and make our room quite smelly too... We also can hear the TV of the other rooms...

Good points are the location and the building (a nice colonial posada). They can arrange airport pick up if you ask in advance.
The breakfast was good but not included in the price.
