“ideal base”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2009

I stayed here for my first 3 nights on my first trip to Peru. Hotel was good, rooms on small side. But adequate I was out and about most of the day and evenings - so I used this as a base. My friends were able to meet me here and the staff were pretty good about taking notes and messages and passing them onto me (it seemed every time I arrived back there was a new message). The bathroom was pretty modern and no plumbing problems at all (which can be an expected problem in Peru).
Breakfast was nice - buffet choice every morning. The hotel in August seemed less than busy but it struck me as more of a business hotel - nothing wrong with that. There was free internet down in the basement near a tourist shop - which was fine and was utilised too. The hotel is located on a side street off Ave José Pardo - which is a very busy main street in Miraflores. That said the location of this hotel did not cause any noise problems. Price was a little dear (booked by my travel agent) but overall I was happy enough with Del Pilar hotel.

“Survived”

This isn't a bad place to stay, particularly if location, location, location are your top three priorities. This place is located just off of Kennedy Park in Miraflores (keep that in mind to tell the taxi driver), right in the heart of things of a safe area and close to Pizza Alley, where there is a little nightlife and decent eats to be had.

The problem is that it is really overpriced for what it is, a well worn three star hotel. The staff is indifferent, although not unkind. The rooms are in definite need of a renovation, I had a plumbing problem in my first room.

This hotel is docked one star in my book for charging my credit card in dollars and setting their own (lousy) exchange rate. I've docked myself one star as well, for being stupid enough to let them do it.

“Good business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2008

Del Pilar Miraflores is a great little business hotel. I have used it for the past few years on frequent trips to Lima. The rooms are clean and modern, if a little on the small side. They have free internet in the rooms (cable needed) or free wifi in the restaurant.

Breakfast is included, and they will fix it for you at any time of morning--even really early (before 5am)--which is handy if you are leaving on one of the very early flights from Lima to other cities.

The restaurant is pretty good, offering international fare. For some reason it is usually quite empty, which I find sad, because the food is decent and the staff are helpful.

The staff throughout the hotel are friendly. The rooms have AC/heat that you can control. There are a few large rooms "suites" that are located in the corner of each floor...the ones on the upper floors have small balconies, the ones on the lower floors have more space. They have 2 floors that are smoke-free. Try to get these if smoke bothers you. The good news is that the windows do open, so you can air out the room if you happen to get a smoky one.

The location is great...only about a block from the main park in Miraflores where there are a lot of restaurants and shops, plus an art fair on the weekends. Yet, it is on a quite side street with pretty good windows that make it possible to sleep even though you can still hear the traffic.

This has been my preferred hotel for my stays in Lima. However, recently the price has essentially doubled. It was a great value for $65-80, but for $120-$160 you can find hotels that are better.

“Not bad ordinary hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2008

Location not bad, next to a nice square/park and handicraft markets in the Petit Thouars street. About 10 min on foot to the Larco Mar shopping/dining center overlooking the Pacific ocean but no evident way to descend the cliff to the beach. Room ok, equipped with a safe and a minibar. Good breakfast, free welcome drink (inevitable Pisco Sour).
