“Nice location - weird smells and inconsistent showers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I know I probably sound like a crazy person when I say this but the showers really did me in on this place. I am going to start with the positives because there are a lot:

-Very clean hotel, everything was super well kept.

-Purified water at the ready! They had large water coolers on each floor for guests to use for free.

-free wifi, always awesome

-I really liked the breakfasts, very Peruvian, not american, but you are in PERU and it was good!

-The location is great, super close to all the great areas of the city, within walking distance and very safe.

-the staff over all was helpful and friendly

Now onto the negative...and it may sound piddly but it was bad enough to sway my rating and leave me unrelaxed a bit:

-Very terrible laquer/varnish smell in our room, so much so that gave me a nagging headache the whole time we were there

-the showers were super inconsistent with terrible water pressure, but more so because it had one temperature, boiling lava hot! I could not get it to not literally scald my skill and got to the point where I would actually fill up the pitcher left for us to use to brush our teeth with cold water from the sink so I could rinse off my face without it leaving blisters.

-the bed set-up: I was there with my husband and we had these puney twin beds...not super romantic, and they were really really hard, not comfy

It was a nice enough place but the negative portion would sway me to not go back, to be honest.

“Very charming hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We stayed here for one night before we flew out of the country.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and the hotel is no doubt pretty and charming. Our room was classy and elegant. I wish we'd gotten to spend more time here. The location was pretty close to Kennedy park and Larcomar. They even packed us a snack for breakfast when we left early the next morning.

Only a couple cons/issues we had:
- Our stay was less than 12 hours long since our flight into Lima was delayed and we only reached in the evening, and our flight out was early, so we left at 4am. We asked the front desk if they could somehow discount our price since we literally spent 9 hours at the hotel (not even a complete night!), but they said they couldn't do that. So that was a bit inconvenient, though understandable.
- We had booked a taxi for 4:30am through the front desk. For some reason the taxi didn't show up, and the staff kept trying to call the cab company on the phone to order another cab, but they couldn't get through, so we ended up going on the street and hailing one ourselves! The staff weren't too helpful at that point.

Otherwise, a very pretty, charming old-style hotel that's well maintained.

Well located in Miraflores - quiet yet close to everything. Small and cozy. Great staff. Highly recommended.

“A superb hotel in an excellent location. Great to really help you get away.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. 2 nights before my Gap Adventures tour and 1 night after my Gap Adventures tour.

Like most Americans, Peru is a bit of a mystery to us and there aren't that many familiar chains in the tourist areas. And if there are, they are REALLY expensive compared to the local hotels.

I had never been to Peru before, I was a 2 week tour that went to Lima, Cusco, Puerto Maldonaldo Rainforest, and Puno. I'll be doing other reviews on the other hotels.

I can tell you that if you are going to Lima and you want to in the safest nicest area, you need to stay in Miraflores. (if you are 18 - 21 and like a bohemian hipster vibe - stay in Barranco). Outsite of MIraflores some areas can be sketchy. When you go down to Plaza De Armas, the downtown central area, even though it is relatively safe there for violent crimes it has one of the highest rates of pick pocketing and purse snatching in the world. Miraflores you don't really have to worry about that. But even then I had at least half a dozen strangers come up to me and tell me to keep an eye on my DSL camera.

This hotel is located in the middle of Miraflores. The best part is that it is about 2 blocks from the busy road which means you will have a nice quiet peaceful sleep. When you pull up to the hotel it looks like an old mansion.. it may have been an old mansion. The lobby and court yard is beautifully decorated in an local vintage/antique sort of way. the rooms are clean and the furniture is made of wood which gives the room a nice natural smell. THere is bottled water available for you to drink free of charge. there is free internet which means make sure to have a laptop with skype if you want to call home on the cheap.

you can walk to Kennedy Square which is the most happening spot in Miraflores... it is about a 5 - 10 minute walk to there. You can also walk to Larco Mar on the Pacific ocean, and it is about a 15 - 20 minute walk to there. There are a few other tourist sites you can walk to as well.

Taxi's are very cheap in this city. You can travel about 20 minutes away in a taxi for 15 sols which is approx $6 USD.

The staff is very helpful and courteous at the hotel and the breakfast is very tasty. the best part is the lobby and courtyard. just love it. and you feel VERY safe here. There are gates and a gate keeper.

There is also a supermarket (nice for American Standards and extremely nice for local standards) within 3 blocks. Think of it like a wholefoods.

The other hotels that you see on the main road and by the pacific ocean are sky rises and you probably get a better view, but you won't be able to sleep with the windows open with the atmosphere that you get at this hotel!

“Great for passing through”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Charming hotel close to the center of Miraflores. We stayed here before and after a tour. Easy walk to food or beaches, but most of the touristy historical stuff is a cab ride away. $17-20 cab ride from the airport. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast worth eating is included. Rooms were clean, but we always ended up with twin beds rather than a queen. Water pressure is good, and hot. AC available if you ask for the remote. Safes in room. Bottles of drinking water at the end of the hall on each floor. Best hotel we stayed at in Peru facilities wise. If you're planning a longer stay in Lima I would check to make sure this is close to where you want to be.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the main courtyard.
