“Basic but fun!”

This place reminded me of a kids camp, but I did like it! I'm a picky person who usually stays in 4-5* hotels and I didn't mind this place. I would say it is like a 3* hotel, but what would you expect in the amazon? (they should probably remove 'luxury' from their name)
The rooms are basic, but are comfortable and the bathrooms are fine. There isn't a big choice at meal times, but the food is homely and tasty. Some people were complaining, but as I said before, what else would you expect in the amazon? And seriously, the price you pay is not huge.
One thing I didn't expect was a personal guide the whole time we were there. From time we were picked up from the airport and then transported back to the airport after 3 nights, our guide was with us. He was well informed and spoke English really well. He showed us around the amazon each day. We did a night walk, fishing, went to a animal sanctuary (must do), canopy walk, boat rides, etc.
There are some animals (e.g. tapir, macaws) around ceiba tops to see as well. Amazingly, internet is available in the main building. The pool area is quite nice. Drink prices are ok.

“Amazon Jungle Comfort”

I loved riding along the Amazon River to reach this hotel. The place is nestled into the rain forest. Huts are scattered along winding wooden walkways that curve through flowers and trees. The AC worked great. The beds were comfy. The shower was a walk-in and big enough for two people in our room. The guide took us piranha fishing, to see a native village, and on nature walks. He did expect good tips, but think about how much you would pay extra to take such tours and tip accordingly. The meals were delicious—the best of our entire trip. They even fried up the fish we caught, which was a special touch. The pool had a waterfall and a slide and was enjoyable. I would highly recommend this hotel. Staying here was a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Leave as much of your luggage as possible before traveling to your room on the boat. Someone has to...

“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

This was a great place to stay for those who want to experience the Amazon, but would rather not "rough it" to much.
The Amazon is humid and uncomfortable. I was born and bred in a tropical climate and still found it uncomfortably hot. It was great to return to a nice air-conditioned room each day and it makes sleeping each night so much easier.

Our room was equipped with 3 beds (triple share) - although you do need to ask for this beforehand. Do contact Pam of Explorama who was wonderful and prompt in her replies.
Besides the air conditioning (which was highly appreciated), ceiling fans were also provided. You do have to leave the air-con on 24/7 though since there were no fly screens on the windows and doors.

A suggestion would be to bring along a couple of coat hangers. There was plenty of space to hang up wet clothes to dry and the air-con ensures that clothes dry pretty quickly (saves a fortune on laundry costs).
It is a good idea to bring along plenty of sun screen and insect repellent (containing at least 40% DEET). You will need this - mozzies are everywhere.

The included meals and all "buffet" style - the food is good and filling although a little bit uninspired and bland. Even though water is free - you do have to bring the provided water bottle (1 is provided for each hut) to the bar each time you need a refill and fill it up yourself.

We appreciated the extra services provided, eg. direct transfer to Iquitos airport, reconfirmation of our flights, print out of our boarding passes for us, help with luggage and assistance in checking in.

It would be a good idea to go onto the "Explorama" website beforehand to find out the types of activities available to ensure that you don't miss out on those that may be of interest to you.

Our guide was a local - born and bred in a nearby village (although he lives in Iquitos now) and was a great source of information on the local animals and plants. Staying 4 days means that we had the opportunity to visit the Canopy Walkway and participate in excursions deeper in the Amazon and yet still return to the comfort of our accom. each night. Highly recommended.
