“bedbugs”

I am an experienced traveler to the jungle that has stayed at the Victoria Regia twice. The first time, all was well. We had hot water (others complained of this), the internet worked, and the restaurant was fine.

The second time, I discovered about 7 red itchy bites running in a line in areas where the sun don't shine! Uh oh! bed bugs!

I won't be staying again and will check all mattresses from now on.

“Best Hotel In Iquitos”

I've been to this Hotel several times in the past and just recently had the opportunity to place comment. I feel i must advise fellow travelers of my favorite spot. Overall the management and staff are there to make your stay an enjoyable one and are willing to go beyond for you. The hospitality was excellent; location is right in the heart of the city but yet private. Cleanliness is excellent and again i emphasize that the staff are there to please you. Any particular requests can be directed to them and they will make it priority to fullfill so keep that in mind. I am looking forward to returning to my favorite hotel soon. Miss such great service.

Room Tip: Be sure to check room first. If not pleased the staff will not hesitate to accomodate. At first i fou...

“Highly recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. Well maintained with a friendly, courteous staff, good wi-fi. The food was really good in both the bar (dinner) and restaurant (breakfast). We stayed one night while on vacation but met several folks there on business. Everyone seemed satisfied with the hotel, which is a pretty good accomplishment for such a remote city. We would definitely stay there again.

Make sure that you book a Junior Suite or better - the "Double" rooms are indeed quite small.

“Best business hotel in Iquitos - far, far better managed than the El Dorado Plaza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

I stayed here for a week in August, after having moved out of the (more expensive) El Dorado Plaza hotel due to many problems and disappointments at the El Dorado.

The Victoria Regia is run by several generations of the same family, and they pay attention to cleanliness, organization, staff training, and generally doing things right. This hotel is the best place for a long-stay business traveler to stay in Iquitos. It is an atrium-style hotel built around a central, enclosed swimming pool. The hotel is pleasant, secure, and clean. I recommend it to other business travelers, and I will stay here again in the future.

The only disadvantage of this hotel is that it is about 6 blocks from the city center (the Plaza de Armas). This is not a significant problem, you can catch a motocar taxi without any waiting from the hotel front door, and the one-way trip to the city center takes less than 5 minutes and costs 2 soles (about 75¢). Just make sure you have the 2 soles in coins, the motocar drivers sometimes have trouble changing paper money.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the street - it will be much quieter!

“Great little hotel with excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

You don't travel to Iquitos seeking 5 star luxury. That said, the hotel served its purpose. I was welcomed at the airport by a hotel representative who gave me a nice history of the city on the 20 minute drive to the hotel. I asked for a room in the back (based on other review comments) and was quickly accommodated. The room was basic but clean. Had a nice flat screen TV (only local channels) and the bed was quite comfortable. A/C worked like a charm and I slept like a baby. Wi-Fi was suprisingly strong throughout the building and free. The hotel had a nice little pool behind the lobby. I didn't use it but it looked clean and well maintained. There wasn't much to see around the hotel at night, but the moto-taxis will take you anywhere in the city center for 2-3 soles (about $1.00 or so). Front desk staff were very friendly and willing to help.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from the street.
