We were disappointed at first with this hostel, expecting more from a HI hostel. The receptionist didn't seem to have our booking which we made on line, but we were allocated a room on the 1st floor as we requested which was good.
The room was ok, and as our bathroom was the closest to the boiler, we had hot water for our shower (although it did keep going hot and cold).
When we got back to the hostel at just after midnight we had to stand outside in the rain and ring the doorbell 3 times before someone came which was frustrating.
The main problem was that we could hear everyone on the corridor and outside our room, as there's a patio area directly outside. However, it was New Year's Eve, so we weren't expecting much sleep!
Breakfast was good and the lady who served us was very friendly.
As it was New Year, lots of hostels were full and I think you can get better value elsewhere.

“Dirty noisy room”
Really expensive room compared to the property of the bathroom and the noise at morning. Problem with the hot water. Personal of the hotel not really friendly except the night caretaker.

“Great bed and blanket!”
Good value for money. Bathroom was a bit drafty, but hot water works. Near a karaoke place - so unless you really are so tired (which after the Inca Trail you will be) you might be kept awake! A bit of a walk to the Plaza de Armas, uphill too. Staff was helpful and they can help store luggage for free. When I was there, the male staff was particularly helpful! Even delivered morning call at unearthly hours (as I requested)!

“Only for sleeping”
Cheap, good location and service, excellent beds. Only for sleeping. The rooms are terrible, didn't have a single plug socket, a tiny tv, the bath was a disaster.
