“Great location - helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

We stayed i n this hotel on two separate occasions, before and after a trip to the Sacred Valley. The rooms are arranged around two "courtyards" and we found both to be clean and comfortable. The location is great - in the old town just a few minutes walk to the main square and a proliferation of restaurants and gift shops. What we found was particularly outstanding was the helpfulness of the reception staff who supported us in arranging the next part of our journey. There is a bank of three computers in reception with internet connection and free wireless is available within that area. The hotel will arrange laundry (7 sol per kilo).

“Great Historic Hotel in Excellent Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2010

I really enjoyed my stay here. It is a beautiful hotel, with very old sections and a large open courtyard. We stayed in 2 different rooms here on various portions of our trip. The first night we stayed in the back portion, on the lower level. It was very large, and good looking. Cold tile floors though, so beware!
The second night we stayed on the streetside, and we loved our balcony and skyhigh vaulted ceiling. We were not bothered by the noise at night. If I did have a complaint however, is that the shower was not the best, and the water smelled bad. Also, the window in the bathroom is on the courtyard, which made me nervous about privacy.

Staff is lovely and knowledgeable. Lots of coca tea available. The breakfast is good, but gets very busy and picked over by late morning. They will refill items such as buns and coffee, if you can catch the busy employees!
This location is EXCELLENT and is within walking distance to historic areas of the city, as well as the main square.

“Great location, helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

My husband and I stayed here as part of a GAP tour for three nights and we loved it. It is located just a few blocks from Plaza de Armas. The hotel itself is charming with the rooms situated around couryards. The rooms aren't fancy, but it's what we were expecting. The staff was very friendly and helpful when we had questions about the area or needed recommendations.

“Excellent mid range choice - great staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

We stayed in Cusco in May this year after booking a trip with Gap Adventures. Our first night was spent in a different hotel which was not satisfactory and were able to move to Tupac Yupanqui for our remaining 3 nights.

Everything about the place was great; room was very large with 2 double beds, bathroom satisfactory and the central courtyard a nice relaxing space. Breakfast was standard for many Peruvian hotels, with a good choice of breads and snacks. There was free internet and coca tea. Location was central with the Plaza only a couple of minutes walk away.

Where the hotel really came into its own though was the service of the staff (particularly the manager). We had all kinds of issues with Gap Adventures (of whom I have nothing positive to say) but the hotel were unfailingly helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. They called Gap to chase them and arranged other trips, effectively taking the role of the tour operator. Nothing was too much trouble and I really would recommend them to other travellers looking for a central mid range option.

“Great location, free coca tea and comfy beds...”

We stayed at the Tupac Yupanqui Palace at the start and end of our Machu Pichu trek with GAP Adventures. It's a super-convenient base just a short stroll from the main square with lots of restaurants and shops to explore.

The rooms themselves are large and comfortable. They have shutters which helps make the room dark and quiet - we both slept very well. The hotel also has free coca tea on tap, which is good for the altitude sickness. There's free internet and a nice courtyard.
