The somewhat imposing, large exterior does not prepare you for the beautiful, airy, eclectically-furnished interior. There are are comfortable chairs, couches, fountains, and everywhere there is artwork. It is great lobby for sipping the free coca tea while acclimating to the high altitude. You'll feel like you are in an exterior space (and wonder why the couches and chairs don't get soaked in the rain). Everything is clean, and the stone floors gleam.
The rooms are clean, comfortable (with modern bathrooms), but nothing too special. With the beautiful lobby right there, and the attractions of Cuzco within walking distance--you won't want to spend much time in the room.
The continental breakfast, included, was good. Again, nothing too special, but tasty and fresh, and served pleasantly. It ends on the dot when they say it ends, so the last morning, when we slept a little late, we missed it and were disappointed.
The staff are attentive and exceedingly friendly. I saw a large tour from Japan arrive, and there was some discontent with one of the rooms given them, and the tour guide was screaming at the staff, who remained calm and worked with the hysterical guide to sort out the problem.
We spent three nights here, interrupted in the middle by an overnight in Aguas Caliente. At first they told us that when we returned from Aguas Caliente, they would have to move us to a different Cuzco hotel, because they were overbooked. I was disappointed and wary, because the Munay Wasi was so enjoyable. Luckily, they worked out the overbooking, and we did not have to switch.
