Stayed here June 16, 18-25, 2011. Excellent, friendly and professional service, The hotel staff was wonderful! Room was relatively spacious. Clean. Breakfast buffet was very good with reasonable variety of offerings. Very good to excellent location, with regard to; two very small "tiendas" for any snacks located right next to hotel, along with a small "locutorio" (phone calling center), and laundromat (that sends your clothing out to be washed) and will have it done for you that same day-pickup, or delivered to the hotel lobby. Also the hotel is just across the Avenida Sol from the "Centro Artesanal Cusco" (Municipal Govt. run mercantile, appx. 340 vendors/stands). There is a restaurant across the street from the hotel, I believe it is called "La Valentina." Ate there three times, good personal pizza, decent "ají de gallina" and "crema de champiñones" (cream of mushroom soup), only thing here is there sport an in-house oven (grill) that will smoke up the restaurant a bit. The hotel itself serves lunch and dinner. I ate an "arroz con pollo" with a "pesto" sauce on the rice that was very tasty. Wi-Fi available with reasonable connection speeds. Stayed in a inside room, facing pleasant patio, noise was a "non-factor." You are about a 15 minute walk (uphill) from the famous and popular "Plaza de Armas", but it is a "straight-shot" on the Avenida Sol. On your way you will also pass the renown "Qorikancha". I would not hesitate, if offered another chance to stay at the José Antonio - Cusco! Safe deposit box inside room is free - ask for key at desk.

Jose Antonio Hotel at Cusco was a deception for me and my husband. First of all, when we arrived there the room was twin and not double as we had asked for. Second, the room was very noisy because it is in front of a very busy street. The platform bed was bigger than the mattress and gave a sense of disorder. The staff service was regular. Nobody asked me at the check in if I would need to use the safe and as soon as I arrived at the room we realized that the safe needs a key. And to pick up the key you have to go again at the check in desk. Conclusion, we did not use the safe!

stayed here with an oats tour group- the hotel mainly caters to groups. it was clearly superior to both jose antonio hotels in lima. the rooms were nicer and quieter, although you do hear some traffic noise in the rooms facing the street. the breakfast buffet and restaurant service was good with better service and more food choices than the lima jose antonio hotel. there were restaurants nearby and a craft market across the street. it was an easy walk to the town center. there was a sauna and hottubs on an upper floor that was outside but enclosed. overall a good experience.

We stayed at Jose Antonio because the Novotel was booked up (see my Novotel review from 4/09), The hotels are comparable in price. The Jose Antonio had MUCH better internet service, a better bathroom (mostly marble), more closet space (with a light fixture) and a Jaccuzi on the 5th floor. The Novotel trumps the Jose Antonio when it comes to general ambience, room furnishings, and location. The two hotels have equally helpful staff and equally sufficient breakfasts.

The Jose Antonio was less than half full during our stay. It is my impression that the Jose Antonio does a lot of business with package tour providers. That would explain why it was so empty since Machu Picchu was closed during our stay...and Cusco in general was lacking the normal number of toursits.

I would like to reassure any VT member that if your tour provider has booked you at this hotel, it is well-run and clean. Our room on the street-side of the 6th (top) floor was a little noisy with sounds from the activity below. If you ask for a courtyard-facing room, it would probably be quieter. I've included a picture from the 6th floor looking down Av. Sol. The picture was taken early on a Sunday morning which is why there is very little traffic and the Centro Artesanal stalls (red building on the lower right) are closed.

At night, we took taxis to/from the Plazas. 5 or 6 soles. The doorman was picky about hailing taxis. He would look for taxis that are large and in excellent condition. There are a lot of very small rickety taxis in Cusco, so we appreciated his attention to this detail.

When we go back to Cusco, we will probably book the Novotel just because of proximity to excellent restaurants. But if the Novotel is full, we wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Jose Antonio.
