This Hotel is very very good and it is a shame to see so many bad reviews for minor issues! We stayed here on a tour of Peru with Llama Travel for 7 nights and we thought that staying in one place for so long would be a bit annoying but the place is great.
They get the main things perfect - the bed is very comfortable and the shower has better pressure than the one we've got at home, hot water was flowing whenever you needed it and they had the added bonus of constant FREE Coca tea in the public lounge area, as many as you could drink, but we were told 5 a day max to start with - it's a folk medicine for altitude sickness.
The Lounge itself was very nice, like being in a Cave that had been designed by the Spanish and was lowered into the ground for good relaxation time outside the room.
The Staff we found to be very helpful and speak very good English, some don't speak English and if they didn't we found them to be very helpful in working things out or finding another staff member who did speak better English. All in all the staff were great and it was nice to leave of a morning with a smile.
Now to the much debated breakfast - No, it's not a British Breakfast so for those moaning about the breakfast please remember this, South America is very different so don't expect Bacon and Sausages and every other amenity you might find in the hotels back home but what you do get is a nice buffet spread of wide mix of food. Food included Eggs, meat of the day (Chicken Nuggets one day!) Loads of Fresh Fruit like Papaya and Mango, Cereals, Rolls, Bread, Potato of the day, Vegetables, loads of real freshly squeezed fruit juice, the orange is lovely and all the coffee and coca tea you can muster.
Sure it does run out sometimes but when it does just wait a couple of minutes for it to be topped back up. It was a shame to see middle aged British Travellers complaining about this, the Middle aged British Travelling set have no patience and expect too much, I despair when I get to that age!
Breakfast starts at 0430, that's right - very early, this is because when you travel to Machu Picchu for the day or two days it's a long journey and some buses and trains leave from 0500, this is great - it means you can get something to eat before departing to the worlds number one destination. Again on this people complain that there is noise in the mornings, there is noise in the mornings but there is no need to complain about it as when it's your turn to go to Machu Picchu You will be the one rising early to walk the corridors and eat early. The Hotel does a grand job with breakfast and contrary to other reviews there is plenty of staff at Breakfast, so don't worry there.
The Location is Perfect - Just around the corner from the Main Square (Tourist Central!) where you will be conned by Street Sellers and Baby Llamas and street cafe's selling Beef Heart (Quite nice!) Due to the location the streets around the hotel can be loud but I would rather be located here than outside the city centre nearer the slums. The noise by the way is not the Hotel's fault and if it's location you're after then there is no need to complain about the noise, Location and friendliness is key here.
Another couple of things, a lot of tour groups use the hotel so when you check in you may have to wait for a few minutes, best to be patient and just enjoy the surroundings rather than huff and puff that it's too hot or that "they should have more staff on" Come on - You're in Peru, things are not always as quick here or rushed, it's a different way of life so find the time to respect that.
The Bar is reasonable but not always manned - simply ask at reception and someone will be over shortly - Some reviews have said the bar is three times more expensive than the rest of Cusco - this is Simply not true at all. The Cusquena (local beer) is the same price if not cheaper than some bars and the cocktails are very reasonably priced, it's also safe and has a fantastic Old Piano in the corner to tempt you!
So overall, Great Beds, Showers, Staff, Breakfast, Location and Coca Tea! I can totally recommend this hotel and Cusco in general! Thank you!
By the way FREE WIFI and FREE Wired Internet in the lounge!
