I am a single parent traveller who backpacked around Peru this summer with my 10 year old daughter. After coming into Cusco to a really bad hostal, we scrambled to find another accomodation in the area we were. We wanted to be close to the Plaza so we would be close to a lot of stuff we wanted to do.
Due to our being in Cusco a few days before the 100 year celebration at Machu Picchu, finding a room was not easy as everything has been full for months. We finally saw this place, and were lucky enough that they had one room left for two nights.
I only book hostals with private ensuite when Itravel with my daughter because i do not like her to have to share with strangers. All the rooms here seemed to have private ensuites which included a shower stall, deep sink and toilet. We got a triple room because that was all they had, which was fine. They only charged us for a double. The cost was a little more than we usually pay, but this place was a gem and worth it. I paid $120 soles (approx $42 USD) per night, but it was very quiet (away from the streetside), breakfast including eggs, fruit, bread, jam, coffee & tea, and juice was included, and they provided us with a portable heater for our room due to the cold nights in Cusco.
I also used their laundry service one day to was out our hiking pants. It was $4.00 soles per kg, where all the street laundry's were $6.00 soles per kg.
All in all, this was a great stay for us as we wanted to conquer the city on foot, and we needed good rests to get ready for Machu Picchu following our stay.
Beds were comfortable, staff were very friendly, and they were able to help me book a private driver to take us to Ollataytambo for a fair and reasonable price.
Lastly, there are a ton of good restaurants within the immediate blocks of this hotel, and the Plaza is a 2 block walk, so you are very close to all the shopping and tourist spots in the central city.
The only thing I would be careful of is that the locks on the room doors are push button locks, and we found that several times we turned the handle and our door opened due to the old wooden frames without having to use our key. So make sure you hide/lock up any of your expensive stuff in your room in luggage or a bag as we did with our iPad, etc. when we were not there. Room locks could/should be upgraded. I am not sure if the hotel had a safety box at reception, but you might want to ask if you are concerned.
