“Stay here with Confidence!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

A fantastic hotel in the perfect location. Steps (literally) away from all the action of the Plaza Mayor and avenida del sol and San Blas!

Great service, location, cleanliness, staff, bed, shower pressure, and great omelet bfast station!

My room was #704. It had two levels with the bedroom upstairs with cable tv and wifi. I actually watched the Atlanta Falcons game which was crucial as it was FF championship game :). The room had a great balcony overlooking Plaza Regocijo. You can she the churches from the plaza mayor from the balcony. Made for great pictures during sunrise and at night.

Incredible price for what you get here ($70 USD per night). Stop researching and book this hotel.

“Nice room but poor breakfast buffet.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

Stayed for one night due to flight delay. Room was clean and large and staff were friendly. We found the food to be of poor quality, scrambled eggs were dark grey and tasted horrible. We stayed the previous week at Tierra Viva Plaza which was quite a step up from the Royal Inka 1.

“Great stay but be careful with the checkout!”

We stayed at the Royal Inca 1 for 2 nights before the trek and 2 more nights after.
As we were a part of the group, our check-in was organised by the tour leader and it was quick and smooth.
Mario looked after our luggage and was very helpful and attentive throughout our stay.
The location of the hotels is absolutely great with easy access to all main places. The rooms are very comfortable but quite dark. I loved the little patio inside with different plants - very convenient. Be careful with room 619 as it is next to a plant room or something like that, and a very noisy fan will keep you awake throughout the night. But the shower is great and a bath is very comfortable with a hot water :-)
The breakfast was very tasty with omelettes made in front of you with ingredients of your choice. Also the jam and juices were fantastic.
One thing you should pay attention to us the check out. The normal checkout time is 8am but the whole group had it extended till 10am. We confirmed that with a receptionist in the evening but still were called and woken up at 8.20am asking to leave the room immediately. We had to pack in hurry and got all stressed out. When I went down to reception, the person who had confirmed the late check out was there but tried to deny that she had agreed to that in the first place. Fortunately I had enough witnesses.
Of course we missed the breakfast time and had only some leftovers. Not happy.

“Variety of experiences at this hotel”

I stayed two times and for a total of 3 nights here as part of a tour with 15 other people. I cant compare it to the Royal Inka II or to any other locations in Cusco because this is the only place I stayed. Im really torn between liking and not liking this hotel. Positives - free wifi in the lobby, free cocoa tea 24/7 in the lobby, interesting eclectic location and building, a block away from the main square with shopping/money change/restaurants. Negatives - we had our first "welcome lunch" as a group at the restaurant and it was probably the worst meal of the whole trip. Just boring and without taste which in Peru is actually pretty unusual to experience! There are two parts of this building a new and an old section. If this is your first day at altitude and you are supposed to "take it easy" chances are still that you have to carry you and your luggage up/down several sets of stairs to get to your room and chances are you will get lost the first few times to even get back to the lobby if you are in the old section. Rooms - they are highly variable and different so some people will be really happy and some wont. I had a big interesting airy room first stay and a cupboard with the bathroom larger than the room area the second time. But for me the big issue was sleep - first time around I had a balcony window that had about an inch gap between the two doors that come together to make for a wicked cold breeze coming in at night and a very interrupted sleep from car alarms, car horns and people walking/talking/partying along the street under my window. I complained three times to the front desk and was told each time someone would be up to help with the problem... and no one came and it was never fixed. Personally - given that I was a tour - I would have preferred a hotel further away from the main square that was quiet at night. Sleeping at altitude is fun enough without all the extra noises !

Room Tip: ask to see your room first so you know how many stairs you still have to do to get to it and how eas...
