up above (but not too far above) the main plaza in cusco. right by plaza de las armas. kinda hard to find, but a good location for exploring the city. minutes from the main plaza, and most of the city attractions, we walked everywhere and never felt the need to take a cab.

complimentary coco tea all hours. the hot water did go off once, but a quick trip to the front desk and it was back in a minute. the doors and walls were very thin (no loud sexy time) and the front door had a crack you could see through. safe worked, had a wood fireplace, but certain times of year you cannot use it and they have a space heater instead. wifi was free. they let me use their PC to print boarding passes and all the staff was very nice. you get what you pay for, and although it wasn;t the nicest hotel, it was good for what we paid. also, location was a key in this one. not too far up the hill, close to many nice spots and attractions.

note: if you are looking for yarn/fabric etc... go the the local market (northwestern portion of city, behind the university, or at least through the academy 'gate', past the chocolate museum)and check the shops nearby there, prices of balls of alpaca fur yarn are half the price you will find near the main plaza. also, we read many warnings of it being dangerous in and around the local markets and etc... but never once did we feel threatened or like we were being preyed upon.

Good place to relaxe after the fantastique fete de cusco. Excellente..... Volveremos el proximo año amigos

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Orquidea in Cusco. It is a short walk to the central square but is away from the noise. Good beds and showers. Pillows comfortable. Free internet and WiFi. Breakfast fair only place we did not get fresh squeezed juice for breakfast but eggs were available on request. Sra. Carolin was very accommodating and reasonable. Luis, the barman and carpenter/sculptor made the best Pisco Sour in the country. Good vegetarian restaurant nearby as well as Cusco's famous "Greens" eatery. Highly recommend this hotel.

Our party of 4 spent a week at the Orquidea Real Hostel. We were very happy with our choice. If you're looking for luxury the OR is not for you, but if want a degree of privacy, reasonable cleanliness, reliable hot water, staff people who earnestly try to be helpful, a tasty included breakfast and a location just a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas, all for a fair price then bingo. Cuzco is a wonderful city and staying at the Orquidea Real gave us more room in our budget to do all the things we wanted to do while we were there. If money is no object, by all means enjoy one of the luxury boutique hotels or wait for the Marriott they're building across from the OR, but if i ever get to go back to Cusco, I would probably stay at the Orquidea Real Hostal again.
