“Excellent in every way!!”

On my fourth visit to Cusco I stayed for the first time in hostal Marani and it immediately became my favorite. Why? Attentive staff; free transfer from the airport; best value for money; breakfast with fresh fruit and juice; only two blocks from the Plaza de Armas, in the middle of the artists' quarter; nice comfy and clean rooms with good beds and hot showers; free Wifi and they work with the absolute best travel agent in Cusco.Hostal Marani offers something more though: it provides funds, training and employment to people from the slums of Cusco via the HoPe foundation, so your dollars also serve the local community in the best possible way. Dutch Tineke has been running an amazing project for the past 20 years (!) here that is absolutely inspiring. Look no further, Hostal Marani is the place to stay when in Cusco.

Room Tip: We stayed here with a group of 5 and all had great rooms.

“Charming and cheap”

We stayed in this Hostal for 6 nights (three on either side of a 4-day trek). The rooms were big, airy, and clean. the bathrooms were bright and clean with great showers. Wifi was great. the Court yard was pleasant. The staff was attentive with airport transport, taxi calls, and the like. Storing our bags while away was no hassle. Breakfast each morning was varied and fresh.

“Fantastic Hostal !!!”

Great Hostal. We booked a matrimonial room which looked out on to a lovely little garden. We had hot water, good showers and clean and wonderful service upon arrival!!! Breakfasts are great and included and the staff are very friendly and helpul. Room 1 is massive matrimonial room with a fridge, TV, bath. Room 10 was a smaller matrimonial room but still very nice. Seems to be a very popular hostal!!!

“Nice location, great private rooms but they charge you for every little extra thing.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011 via mobile

I moved here after my Lares Valley trek as I wanted some private space. The rooms are lovely and clean and they have a really nice courtyard to hang out in.
I was a bit put out with some minor things like the fact that they wouldn't give you a mug for your coca tea (the first hostel in Peru I'd been to where this happened) and you had to settle for these itsy bitsy teacups.
Another first was the fact that, if it wasn't breakfast time, and you wanted hot water for drinking (I was making my own tea) you got charged for the flask of hot water.
That said, the beds are comfortable and the showers hot, so all in all, a good deal.

“Best value in Cusco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

My husband and I walked all around Cusco one day, looking at hotels in person, and this one was by far the best for the price point. An amazing value for the money! We were in a HUGE, clean, airy matrimonial - a full-sized bed and a twin bed - big enough for 3, but with just the 2 of us it was huge. The room had huge high ceilings with exposed wooden beams, a cute desk facing the window, and big clean bathroom. It can get cold at night, but they will turn the heat on for an additional nightly fee. We found that the blankets were sufficient during our stay. For 3 nights I went on a side trip while my husband stayed in Cusco, and they let him stay in the same room for the price of a single since I wasn't there - they are very fair and honest.

Breakfast was among the best we had in all of our 9 weeks in South America: daily egg dish, a variety of breads, fresh juice, fruit, and coffee. There's a nice indoor & outdoor sitting area and free self-serve book exchange - with lots of language options. In the back of the hotel grounds is a little grassy area with lounge chairs if you'd like to get some sun.

When we checked out, as another reviewer mentioned they did write down all our daily breakfasts on the bill, but it wasn't an additional charge - just for their own accounting.

Would definitely stay here next time we are in Cusco!

Room Tip: Ask to see some of the rooms before you pick one - they are all different sizes and vibes
