“Decent place to stay near the Plaza de Armas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

Andenes de Saphy is a nice place to stay and is not too close to the Plaza, but not too far away either. We would walk to the Plaza during the day, and take a taxi back at night for 3 soles.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful with anything we needed. The beds were not too comfortable, but were not horrible either. Breakfast consisted of bread and yogurt or eggs.

The bad thing about the Hotel is the nosie level. The outside walls are very thin and you can hear horns honking, people talking, and roosters. If you are worried about a good night's sleep this is not the place for you. If you are a sound sleeper don't worry about it.

“Ok hotel...a little far from the action at the Plaza for walking home at night...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2011

Place is ok...woken up very early by people leaving for excursions. They say they take Credit cards then try and charge very high percentage. Clarify this before agreeing to stay there.

Room Tip: Get a room up a high

“Excellent value with modest comfort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2011

We stayed here during Christmas break. We found the rooms comfy and decorated pleasantly. It's a bit spartan for some, definitely no more than three stars, but because of it's simple modest comfort, it's really two-plus stars. Rooms are clean and beds were firm. Some mattresses might be considered a little worn but on the whole, very nice. The rooms are essentially basic - no TV, no clock radio, small area rugs, perhaps a chair, and no phone with outside service. It's on a quiet location and up a slight hill about four short blocks from the Plaza de Armas. Street parking only. There are just enough towels; pillows were small. We didn't see any soap, so you'll need your own soap and shampoo. Rooms were kind of "darkish" at night; bathrooms were dimly lit.

The rooms have only COLD running water, but the shower featured a hot water heating shower head. Don't expect much pressure, so showering can take a little longer and water temperature fluctuated somewhat. Rooms have NO central heat; make sure to ask for a heater (optional price per night) as the rooms can get cold depending on weather. You might need an additional blanket; they are available.

This is NOT ideal for any person who has difficulty walking up slight hills; NOT acceptable for handicapped (stairs only). Some rooms were up on a higher location, as this property seems to be built in on the side of angled hill.

Overall, select this location if you like clean, simple modesty at very attractive prices. If you require four-star comfort or five star luxury, this is NOT the place. Backpackers and folks who like to "rough it" will find this place ideal and refreshing from the trail. Folks who like creature comforts and small luxuries will find this place perhaps a bit too spartan.

Room Tip: The brightest room is the front room!

“Nice stay - short walk from main square”

Great little hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, rooms clean with individual artistic touches that make each room unique. It is close to the action, but not so close as to hear all the noise on the street (although the walls are a bit thin).

“Very nice 4 night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2011

We got there Dec 31st, 2010 straight from Vancouver with a plane change in Lima. The idea was to stay in Cuzco for a few days to acclimatize to the altitude. We were 2 couples and rented 2 separate rooms. Very clean rooms reasonably priced. We had good service even though we had to explain things with hands and dictionary, there was one girls who spoke some English and we certainly appreciated it.
Breakfast was bread, jam, strong coffee. But with the altitude messing with us it was enough. We drank a lot of coca tea, and I mean a lot, even tried to chew it, gagged on it. Eventually had to resort to medication to feel better.
Close enough walking distance to city center (Plaza Des Armas) yet far enough to be out of the hubbub.
New years eve was quite an experience with fireworks and bangs going off all night and even the next day.
