“High and Happy!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Costa del Sol in Cusco was a very clean, comfortable, convenient place to stay. We spent three nights there prior to our trip to Machu Picchu and another on our return through to Lima. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The location was excellent, i.e. close to easy shopping and the center of town. Easy walking distance to restaurants and if you wanted to take a taxi, they are very inexpensive. The food in the restaurant was okay. Certainly, for the included breakfast there was a variety and it provided a good, convenient meal. However, for lunch or dinner it's better to go to a nearby restaurant in our opinion.

Room Tip: You might ask if there's any construction or repair going on and steer clear of that. Otherwise...

“Beautiful hotel, huge room sparingly decorated, too noisy to sleep well”

When we entered the hotel, we were delighted with the beauty of the reception, the courtyard and the upper level balcony ringing the courtyard. When we entered the room (a superior suite in the old section of the hotel facing the main street), we saw a very large room with a beautiful high ceiling, but with very little furnishings. The bathroom, however, was extremely modern with a shower and a jacuzzi tub and far outshone the sleeping areas. We realized immediately how noisy the room was - particularly the constant street noise, cars and pedestrians.

Needless to say, we had a very fitful night's rest (or lack thereof) and were not happy campers.

On the plus side, the location of the hotel is very central and the service was dependable.

“Great location, shame about the room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Staying 2 nights, making this a base for a day trip to Macchu Picchu, we really needed a good nights sleep. Not to be, our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the airconditioning units. As the room was not airconditioned, we needed to open the window to keep cool. When we complained the units were switched off, only to start agin at 3am. After a phone call to reception they were swicthed off. Next night the same, staff were unhelpful, but did say units would be switched off at 9pm, eventually, after several visits to reception this happened.
Room was small & dark, beds ok. Breakfast was open from 5am (suited to early starts to Macchu Picchu) & very good.

Room Tip: Steer away from the 'Standard' rooms.

“Could be great if not for the noise.”

We spent three nights here, two before and one after our trip to Machu Picchu. The location is great; very convenient to the main square. The first two nights were in the new section with a just average 1960-70's style Holiday Inn type room. The last night was in a really excellent room in the old section just off the courtyard. However this turned out to be a two-edged sword. Wonderfully comfortable bed with luxurious bathroom. But the room was noisy at night with people returning from dinner after having had maybe a glass of wine too much. Early morning wasn't much better with departing guests rolling suitcases over the stone courtyard. Wi-fi is good but you have to resign-in every time your screen saver comes on. Breakfast in very good but the thimble size welcome cocktail is a joke.

“Nice hotel, but bring earplugs.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011 via mobile

We stayed in one of the rooms in the old colonial building. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. The bathrooms are great, well designed. The only unfortunate thing about this hotel is practically no noise insulation. The colonial part has a cobblestone center court. While it was relatively quiet at night, the breakfast starts at 4:30am and at 4am people start walking and dragging luggage across cobblestones. The windows and doors in the rooms have no sound proofing at all. Our friends who stayed on the side of the courtyart facing toward Plaza des Armes were even less lucky as they had party noise from there until way past 11pm.
