This hotel is a cute little gem in Arequipa. The staff are extremely helpful, the rooms are simple and clean, with hot water and if your lucky even with an amazing view of the surrounding volcanos. The walk into the centre is pleasant and is a good distance to be away from centre chaos. Arequipa is such a lovely city you could spend days here! Don´t forget to check the views from the rooftop terrace, they´re amazing.

“Clean, quiet and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We stayed for 4 nights in total and enjoyed the stay. The rooms are clean, spacious and have comfortable beds. We stayed on the 3rd floor and then on the 4th floor and both times had wonderful hot showers. Breakfast is served on a nice little patio in the sun and for a few extra soles you can get eggs and some REAL coffee. Staff were very friendly and happy to store our bags for a few days, and let us hang out in the communal areas while waiting for our bus.

The wifi is a bit sketchy on the 4th floor , same for the TV reception. Also the arranged pick up didn't occur - but the staff refunded our money.

Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor - very noisy Fourth floor (matrimonial room) is very quiet and has fantastic...

“Great Place to Stay in Arequipa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

We enjoyed our stay at the Hostal Solar - it is a great place to stay in Arequipa. The room we stayed in was big and clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. A good breakfast is served on their rooftop terrace. I highly recommend it.

“Good option when staying in Arequipa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

Free pick-up service offered by Hostal Solar is not reliable: no one was waiting for me at the bus terminal when I arrived very early in the morning; when I called them, they asked me to take a taxi; happily, the paid me back the 7 soles of the taxi ride, which is fair.

Also, they were very kind to give me my room, although it was only 6:30am. The room furniture is basic, but it is still confortable and very quiet. Shower works great, there is even hot water in the sink which is not common in Peru.

Wifi works very well. I had a couple of documents to print and they very kindly did that for me for free.

They have a lovely terrace where you can enjoy a basic, but still good breakfast.

Last note: some people only go to Lima, Cusco and Puno when visiting Peru, I would definitely recommend to go to Arequipa as well, which is a beautiful city.

“Quiet position, friendly helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

We were met as promised at the bus station, although it was midnight. The room was spacious and light, although without much of a view, but it was quiet. There was hot water in the basin as well as the shower. Breakfast on the terrace was help-yourself to juice, puffed wheat and yoghurt, rolls and jam, tea and coffee - eggs were 3 new soles extra. The staff were very helpful, organising a private taxi to take us to the petroglyphs at Quequena when the official Tourist Information Office and various tourist agencies could offer no suggestions as to how to get there.
We had pre-booked a 2-day trip to Colca Canyon through the hotel (with Giardino tour operator); it was excellent and good value. The buffet lunches on the tour, at Coporaque and Chivay, offered the best quality, most tasty and largest variety of any meals we had in 6 weeks in Peru. Be prepared for the altitude sickness and the cold in July - thermals definitely needed!
