“Great hotel at an amazing place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

This hidden gem of a hotel is right on the beach at Puerto Inca and unless you have heard of this area you wouldn't know it existed. There's only the hotel here after a 10 minute drive from the main road. The hotel features a nice swimming pool, hammocks, outdoor gym area and an open-air (but covered) restaurant. Staff here were very friendly and most spoke English although the meal service was a tad slow. Rooms are a good size and have a toilet and shower. One small note: the piped water is salty - not to be consumed! Some of the rooms have excellent views over the bay. The beach is only a short stroll away. There are Inca ruins on each hill on either side of the bay and they are well worth a visit. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it to anyone travelling through this area.

“Be glad it's here.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2011

My friend and I stayed here one night as part of our GAP Adventures tour in November last year. There is literally nowhere else to stay if you're making the long drive from Paracas to Arequipa, so just be glad it's here.

The best I can do is help you prepare for your stay here, so my advice to you is the following:
-Bring a wind breaker! Even in November, the weather was quite chilly. At the time of our visit, the only place to dine was outside.
-Bring snacks. There is only one kitchen -- and it takes FOREVER. Food is ok - I had pasta, soup, and bread for the 3 meals I had here. Again, since you're eating outside, your meal will get cold very quickly.
-Drink a lot. They serve a mean Pisco Sour here - if you're not the adventurous type, then sit back, enjoy the drinks, and return to your room to pass out.
-If you are the 'adventurous' type, there are plenty of ruins to explore around the hotel. One side has ruins that can take a good 3-4 hours to explore (be sure to stop and mock the hilarious signage while avoiding the random human remains that lie about), while the other side has jagged rocks and great views of the coastline - though I don't recommend this as my clothing and hands were nicely destroyed after an hour. Be sure to head back to the hotel before sunset!
-Bring entertainment. Cards, smartphone, anything. There is no TV here and it can get boring at night.

If you shower in the evening, chances are that your water will be cold. A friend of mine had gone on same trip a week prior to us so I had some warning. I asked the front desk to turn the hot water on for me and they did so without issue.

“OK for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

We stopped here for the night on our drive from Paracas to Arequipa, and were glad that we did, because that turned out to be too long of a drive for one day (with kids in the car). We were the only guests, no tour buses that day, and had a great afternoon and early morning looking at the inca ruins and climbing and hiking among the rocks. Impressive surf braking on the rocks at the southern end of the bay, and vultures (condors?) soaring over the cliff. When we were there (July) the water was cold and there was a crushing 5 ft surf brake right at the beach. Absolutely not suitable for bathing. Dining was basic and outside. Nice for one night, not for longer.

“Great setting, but rooms need some TLC.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2009

My GAP tour stoped here for a night during my Peru vacation last year. The location of this hotel is wonderful. It overlooks a beach and there are trails that take you to Inca ruins and beautiful coastal scenery. Keep in mind that some of the trails are pretty rugged and some of the ruins are tomb, with bones still inside them. Still, its a great place for small hiking trips.
As for the service, the hotels restraunt isn't too bad. I had fish for lunch and chicken for dinner, nothing too special, but the cooks were decent. The hotel rooms however are a different issue. While my room was clean, the lights looked like they needed replacing and I ran out of hot water during my morning shower. No TVs in the rooms either. Still, its not the worst place to get stuck in on the way to Arequipa (which is a very long drive from here, btw). Stay at least one night here, and come early if you want to relax or go hiking.

“not a bad little place on the beach... not in Arequipa at all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2009

My family and I just returned to Lima Peru after driving to Arequipa and Chile.

I found out about this hotel from Trip Advisor.

It worked out well for us to stop one night at this property on our drive. Just be aware that it is not really anywhere near Arequipa but on the beach near the town of Chala. The hotel sits back on the beach far away from everything else.

WE had what I would consider the best room on the property and it was right on the ocean. Be aware that some rooms seem to sit right on the parking lot ..so if you can ask to see the room.

The water on the beach is cold as is most of Peru and the pool is small so if you go during a busy time be aware. We were there right after New Years and most people cleared out. The pool will be full of kids in the Peruvian summer.

They offer camping on the beach also

The food we had was very good and resonable. They do offer and all inclusive plan but I could not see being stuck here for more than a day or two and maybe they give you cheap food on the all inclusive plan

The food we had was excellent and in my opinion this is a better place just to stop for lunch on the way to or from Arequipa.

There was a tour van that sopped and eat luch and looked at the ruins while we were there

All in all if you are passing through Arequipa in the summer I would say stop here and spend a night or just eat lunch

If you are driving to Chile ...avoid Arica in my opinion
