This is one of my favourite places in all of Peru.
You exit the highway and drive down a dirt road to a hotel in a very small bay. You may not even notice the Inca ruins as you enter. You'll find a simple but clean hotel. It has excellent views, a nice open-air restaurant and pool.
It's about this time you might discover the Inca ruins. They are everywhere, only 100 metres from the hotel, on both sides of the bay. The more you explore, the more you will find. It's another Peruvian archeological goldmine open for all to see and touch.
The service was fantastic. The staff really fussed over us. Our barman didn't start until around dinner time, so when we ordered an assortment of drinks, the poor staff came back apologetically and said they didn't know how to make any of them. Up steps one of the porters who proclaimed to know how to make a Pisco sour.
With a couple of pesos (50 cents) tip every drink, we had a very happy arrangement, and a good night was had by all. I even got gold-plated service at breakfast. I think my slight hangover was providing some amusement for the staff!
I am surprised the hotel doesn't have a better rating overall. It's remote and you need to adjust your expectations. If you want a full service chain hotel within easy access of bars and shopping, this isn't for you. If you want to stay over night in the middle of an archeological exhibit with fantastic local service, then look no further. Just brilliant.
Tip: Explore the north side (to the right as you face the ocean). It's hillier but some really interesting spots up there and alot less people go there.
