“A refreshing place to stay in Peru”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

Situated just a 8 minute walk from the town center, this hotel has everything you need. The breakfast was clean and offered a variety of options. The employees are helpful and speak English. The rooms have strong and fast wifi, and our room including bed, was really clean, and comfortable. The garden is refreshing and impressive as we hadn't seen any garden area or seating area like it in Peru. By the way, don't forget to look for the tortise in the garden. We named him Horrace.

“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Positives: Good beds. Hot showers (best we had in Peru). Lovely garden to chill out in where they carry out the cooking classes and spanish lessons. Extremely friendly and helpful reception staff who went above and beyond their duty to assist us with onward travel plans. Carlos, who runs the cooking school is brilliant. Great location to walk in to the centre of town. The reception can organise your onward bus tickets and any trips you want to do.

Negatives: There really arent any. The rooms are basic, dont expect anything flash.

A great choice for the price. A double/ twin with private bath was about 110soles.

“Nice Hostel near the city center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Casa de Avila is located a bit off the city center but is still in good walking distance (5-10 min to plaza de Armas) so you don’t always need to take a taxi to go there. As it is not located in a narrow street with cars running by it is very calm and quiet and all the rooms get enough sunlight.

When we stayed there for some days we had 2 different rooms. One was on the ground floor and the other on the first floor from which you could easily overlook the beautiful garden which is an ideal chill-out place after a day full of sightseeing. Rooms were a bit small but nice with a hot shower, TV, a good bed and very good working Wifi

Breakfast is basic and consisted of bread, butter, marmalade and juices but for some extra Soles you can upgrade it quite well with fruit salad, eggs and all the other delicious things.

Reception was quite professional and good English speaking although I have to admit that I wouldn’t recommend to book a tour through the hostel. The city tour we booked was not the best, as it wasn’t a city tour at all. We just passed all the nice places in the city, but then went out of town to see places in which we weren’t interested at all and which even weren’t included in the price. So the choice was always “enjoy the nice scenery”=wait or pay extra money for the “sight”.
The other tour we booked was a 2 day Colca Canyon Tour. As my girl-friend couldn’t go by bus because of bus-sickness we needed to book a private tour which turned out to be very expensive in most of the travel agencies. As we explained our situation to the hostel, the receptionist offered us her help. We were offered a quite reasonable tour but driver, car and tour guide were all booked seperatly by the hostel. So the next night we ended up in waiting at 3.00 am pick-up-time, as our driver didn’t show up and nobody was reachable at phone at this time. Somehow the housekeeper still managed to organise our trip and it was really great in the end and absolutely worth every Sol/Dollar.

After returning from Colca Canyon we again decided to stay at Casa de Avila and were welcomed warmly. The reception realised that their Colca Tour organisation was not very professional and offered us a one of the best rooms for a normal price in return for our troubles. Great service!

All in all I really can recommend your stay at Casa de Avila!

“Relaxing garden”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We agree with the rest of the posters. A good basic hotel with most of the rooms facing the garden. Free WiFi, An average breakfast which we usually upgraded with an omelette. The staff spoke English and were very helpful with any inquires we had.
The rooms were a decent size with lots of room for luggage. Good hot showers. We found the beds to be hard though
Very central and easy to walk to the Plaza des Armas and to see most of the in town sites.
After a long day of walking around, the pleasant garden was a treat to just kick back and read books or use the internet.
I would reccomend this hotel and would stay again.

“Great colonial building within walking distance from downtown square”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

My husband and I stayed at Casa de Avila for three nights during our one month backpacking in Latin America.
With sunny weather we truly enjoyed the nice garden and the peacefulness provided there - relaxing and quiet even though the busy city is just outside. Since the rooms all face the garden the room we had was nice and quiet.
The bedroom was clean and inviting, and the hot shower was excellent (without electric heating so no danger of getting an electric shock). A comfortable bed and a little table with two chairs made it a nice place to use the WIFI in the room. On the day we left we had to check out a few hours before leaving. Then the nice breakfast room was open so we could sit there and have a cup of tea and relax before our departure.

We didn't take advantage of having the hotel help us with setting up language classes. However, we saw several other guests spend the morning with a one-on-one tutor. The location seems to be a good spot for those who want to learn the language.

We would love to come back here in the future!
