“Great Hotel and Service, not central though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2009

The hotel is nice, very clean and modern. The staff is really friendly and thoughtful. Whenever we were travelling really early they prepared a take away breakfast for us.
Only downside is that it is 15minutes walk to the Plaza de Armas. The walk is in a residential area so it is ok for the day but at dark a taxi is recommended (which you can get for 6 or 7 Soles - around $2-3.
Worth it!

“A good option in a quiet area.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

We stayed here a total of 3 nights in July of 07. After being shown a few other options by our travel guide we chose this hotel as it looked the cleanest and was in a quiet area away from the noise of the Plaza Armas. The first night we stayed in a "matrimonial" which had a nice comfy king sized bed. Everything was clean and the service was excellent in the hotel. We returned to this hotel after a couple of days of hiking around colca canyon as it was again the best option offered to us and was definitely the cleanest. This time we stayed in a smaller room next to the elevator. I was concerened it would be noisy but really it was not a problem at all. The bed again was comfy but a queen size, still better than most of the other hotels we've stayed at. I will say, the breakfast was the best of all of our trip. A full filling meal that held us til dinner. Fresh fruit, great coffee, various types of breads as well as fresh juices and made to order eggs, etc. anyway you like them. Also, as one other poster stated, the welcome drink was a nice touch.

One thing to note, even though the area is quite beautiful and quiet, we were told not to walk around there at night. Too dangerous as the park nearby had many drunks according to the management. This was not a problem as we took a taxi for about 3 solas. Quite reasonable.

All in all I would recommend this hotel.

“nice hotel shame about the noise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2007

We stayed in this hotel during May you are greeted by a clean reception and a glass of Pisco sour which is welcome after a long journey. The rooms are of varying standard and size from very small box rooms next to the lift to spacious suits. One thing they all have in common is the lack of hot water at any time of the day. Not to mention the noise that seems to come from every ware especially in those rooms near the lift. It seems to reverberate throughout the hotel especially at night. In the early hours of the morning expect to hear the dawn chorus from the local cockerels. The food at the hotel is very good and I can recommend the Stanley special.
The location is a little way out of the town center but easy to reach in a taxi expect to pay around 3-4 sols for the trip
This is a comfortable hotel if the small issues I mention don’t bother you.

“Very nice hotel El Cabildo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2005

We stayed 6 persons in 3 double rooms on July 2005 and everybody were completely pleased about the hotel. The staff is very helpful.
The hotel is new and very clean, specially the bathroom, that´s excellent, spotless, big, confortable, with a strong shower and ammenities.
The rooms have a good size and are very clean and with good lightening.
The beds are super confortable. This point is a plus for me because I´m a back pain sufferer.
The lift is very modern and big.
The hotel is not at the Arequipa´s noisy center but in a quite residential district, so it´s completely silent by night. Taxis to center (5 minutes) are very cheap: less than $1 and pass along the hotel.
The restaurant is nice and has a piano, though it´s a bit expensive. There are hundreds of excellent and cheap restaurants in the center.
They were so polite that gave us the welcome drink twice.
The only complaint is the TV size (14") but they have lots of cable channels in different languages, several in English.
I definitely recommend El Cabildo!
Arequipa city is beautiful, with wonderful churches, museums, elegant colonial houses to visit, the Convento de Santa Catalina (great!!!), plenty of nice restaurants, boutiques, etc. It´s called La ciudad blanca (the white city) because many houses are made in sillar (volcanic lava). Arequipa´s symbol is its volcan Misti.
The surrounding areas are beautiful, with astonishing landscapes and great places to visit: La mansión del fundador (The founder´s mansion), El molino de Sabandía (The Sabandia windmill), etc.
And if you want a delicious dessert at a cosy place, go to Ciocolatta, in Mercaderes street. They serve meals too.
