We were in Arequipa over Christmas weekend. Casa Arequipa is in a beautifully restored building in a residential area. Very easy short walk to the central square (and I'm not a walker), and much better than staying near the noisy square. The entire place was spotless and looked as if it had just been repainted. Our room was on the second floor with a high ceiling, and excellent quality linens, blankets and duvet covers. Wonderful breakfast room on the roof with panoramic windows and a view of the snow covered mountains, including the two famous volcanoes. As others have mentioned, the most amazing part was the service.
All the front desk staff treated us as if the sole purpose of their job was to help us. Example: My daughter had left her cell phone charger in Lima; the only place to get a cheap replacement was a not very appealing general market, which wasn't exactly where we had planned on spending the day. Without our asking, the manager offered to (and did) go get the charger for us so we wouldn't have to use our vacation time! They also booked bus and train tickets for us and took us to the bus station when we left. The only negatives are that if you have a room facing the street, even though it's a quiet residential street, you will hear cars. Also, since the hotel is small and all the rooms open into a central area, you can hear other guests in the lobby through your door. But to me, the wonderful qualities of Casa Arequipa far outweigh those issues.
