We stayed for overnight in this hotel before heading into the Canyon region. I am 100% sure that we couldn't have found a better place in Arequipa (which has one of the nicest city center areas in Peru). I'd like to simply enlist the ups and downs of this place.
-The Good
Check-in very swift (we were in the low season though. We could be among a very few guests at the time, as we only saw maybe 4 other people throughout our stay)
Reception staff friendly and responding. No language problems. Good recommendations on dining places. Good and helpful reaqtion to our requests (not that there were many)
Nice room with a garden view and a good atmosphere
Very nice and cozy place overall
Nice and clean, quite big bathroom
Location: it's in the middle of a park area and outside of the city center, which gives it the quietness and tranquillity to enjoy. Yet it's just a 3 minute taxi ride to the city center. You can walk if you wish to, it's around 2 km away
The llamas and alpacas freeely walk around the hotel garden. Quite an attraction for our 7 year old child
The pool is small for lap swimming but good for a refreshing dive in
- The Bad
The single worst thing about this hotel (and every other Libertador property that we stayed in Peru) is its breakfast. It's a dull, beaten to death, no variety, no local speciality added, your run of the mill continental breakfast that you can have in any place in Europe. The only exception being a standard Peruvian selection of Mate's, a kind of local tea. In a country with such a diverse and fine cuisine as Peru, this is quite simply unacceptable and can't be explained. I mean, it can't cost too much to add just a couple of local delicious specialties to the daily breakfast selection, so why doesn't Libertador bother, I fail to understand. The breakfast quality ranks very high on my own hotel evaluation list, hence the marks are down.
No bath gel in the amenities, just a soap bar. But this is one sad characteristic of almost all the hotels in Peru that we've stayed in
We didn't use the hotel restaurant for dining, so no comment. There was no music in the garden, neither anything else to disturb the excellent quietness of the area. But may be it's different in the high season.
In any case, either visiting a very nice Arequipa, or on your way to the mountains, I'm sure you can't find a better place to stay in this city. Recommended!
