Great hostel for backpackers and ppl who is looking for fun. Great location, only few blocks away from the central plaza, restaurants, atm's clubs and markets. Excellent fair price, with good accomodation and clean bathrooms,
Nice simple breakfast to start the day, free WIFI also they have computers, and a super fun bar, with great booze , the staff is always welcome to help you out with everything u need, and they take you out for restaurants and clubs, is a nice place to make good friends.
Plus they have a lovely terrace excellent to rest after a long day trekking and get tan! Totally recommend it! ;)
Also, they just oppened a restaurant inside the hostel to have extra breakfast or a good brunch-diiner.

I have stayed in Arequipa 2 times. The first time I arrived to Bothy just by ramdon choise. The owner is very nice and made me feel like I was at home. He use to have some meetings in the social area so all the backpackers can get to meet eachother and do fun things together. Is an exelent chance to meet new friends specialy when you are a lone traveller. the Second time my stay there was even better because the new building is nicer and cozzy. they have all the ammenities and beds are very clean all the time. I would go back there for sure!

we stayed here for one night on our way to puno, we arrived without a booking saturday am after a long bus journey from lima, the staff were very welcoming and the room was nice. It was cheap and very clean and a brilliant place to meet people and find out about things to see and do. we booked the trip to the colcoa canyon from the bothy which was a brilliant trip. We also did the bbq at the hostel which was cheap but the food wasn't brilliant. I actually felt sick on the morning of the trip but it was a early pick up (3.30am). I would definately recommend this hostel to stay.

70 soles for a double room with a private bathroom, including breakfast.
60 soles for a double room with a shared bathroom including breakfast.

This hostel was fine for a night or two but I thought it should have been cheaper because it was a very basic, old hostel. The bedroom and the bathroom were really dated and not very clean. It's a hostel aimed at backpackers, therefore it runs tours, it has a lot of good information about the city and it has a bar. I feel that the hostel is expensive because of all these extra backpacker add ons. I would prefer to stay in a cheaper place which has a better room but not all the extra backpacker add ons.

The positives:

- Great location, only a really short walk to the main plaza. There are bars and restaurants very close by.
- It's a good social hostel, lots of seating outside the room, both indoor and outdoor.
- There is free wifi and one computer. The wifi was really fast.
- The staff are very friendly and really helpful. One woman spoke excellent English.
- There is also a pool table.

The negatives:

- Limited hot water. The shower gave a warm (not hot) shower for one person, then the second person had a pretty cold shower. This was really disappointing as they advertise that they have very hot water 24/7.
- The breakfast was terrible and badly advertised. I'd read on TripAdvisor that you got a free breakfast which included pancakes. I thought, this can't be right, it's normally bread, jam & butter. When I got to the hostel they had a blackboard up with the breakfast written on. It said "please try our free strawberry pancakes with breakfast on the roof terrace." I went to the roof terrace, no one was around and there were no signs of breakfast. I eventually found the buffet breakfast downstairs in the dark bar room. There were no pancakes, just really stale bread, butter and jam. Another girl also having breakfast came down looking for these so called strawberry pancakes. She also just found stale bread, she complained and the staff member erased what was written on the blackboard and told us it had been a mistake.

I must say that the Bothy Hostel in Cabanconde (the main Colca Canyon town) is much better than the Bothy Hostel in Arequipa. It's cleaner and it actually has really hot water. The rooms are also cheaper. In Cabanaconde I got a double room with a private bathroom for 50soles.

******I moved to Hosperdaje Macondo which is further up Puente Grau (going up the hill on the left, number 109 I think). This is a brand new hostel. It is incredibly clean and comfortable AND it has hammocks on the roof terrace. Plus it is much more reasonably priced. Hosperdaje Macondo is 40soles for a double room with a shared bathroom and 50soles for a private bathroom. This hostel is what a hostel should be like, still excellent quality at a very good price. It is so much better than Bothy!

Enjoy Arequipa, it's an amazing city with great weather!
