“fantastic place to stay in Cuenca”

My mother and I stayed here for 13 nights. It is the cleanest place we've stayed in Ecuador. The staff are constantly cleaning and touching up the place. It is really lovely; there are multiple seating areas, multiple computers for internet, coffee and tea all day. The breakfasts are filling and healthy and the staff and owners go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. We bought fruit at the market and cut it up in their spotless kitchen. The owner came by several times as we were eating and brought us napkins and water to make our snacks more pleasant. The street on which the hotel sits is well-lit and safe to walk back at night from concerts, etc. The hotel feels like a home away from home. We met eight other couples and singles who were staying here for three-to-four weeks as they said the place was so pleasant. Again, a great place from which to spend time exploring the city.

“A wonderful hotel run by a truly caring family in a grewat location”

We spent 3 perfect nights in this charming, comfortable hotel. It's run by a family who loves what they do, truly cares about thier guests, and are endlessly friendly and helpful. The rooms aren't fancy, but very clean and comfortable. The restaurant attached to the hotel is excellent, one of the best in Cuenca and worth a visit in of itself for homemade Italian food. Best of all the location is great and the prices are an exceptional value. We will be back and can highly reccomend without reservations. Only complaint is they allow smoking in the common areas, the smoke is noticible in some rooms, wish they would ban smoking throughout!

Room Tip: all are fairly equal

“Lovely colonial hotel with plenty of light everywhere”

Really nice place to stay with family, friends or as a couple. In the center of Cuenca, free coffee, tea and filtered water 24/24. Good restaurant belonging to the hotel. The streets of Cuenca are noisy and polluted, so you might not make it your longest stay if you prefer peaceful holidays. However the local archaeological museum (we had a lovely chat with the lady responsible for the ancient coins exhibition) and the inca site are worth visiting. We enjoyed the markets and strolling down the streets. We happened to be there during festivities (end of school) in June, when there we children and adults parading on the streets everywhere - it was great fun.

“Great Hotel”

Stayed here for 4 days and loved it. I stayed in one of the upper rooms which is a bit removed from the street noises. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Breakfast that was included was wonderful. An easy walk to downtown and most of the sites. The staff helped me with laundry, tours, and suggestions on what to do. Would stay there again for sure.

Room Tip: Room 15 was very quite. I would ask for the rooms on the 3rd floor up the little stair case.

“They allow smoking in their common areas, very expensive”

There are so many great little inexpensive hostals in Cuenca, I would avoid this one. It's over-priced and over-rated. It is a cute place, the rooms are nice however most of them do not have outside windows. Worst of all, they allow smoking in their common areas which of course you can smell in your room. Also the location is a bit out of the way. I stayed in another hostal (hogar cuencano) in a better location for 1/3 the price.

The proprietors are very nice and very helpful. The Italian restaurant connected to this hostal is excellent but also on the pricey side.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room near the breakfast room, it is very noisy. This hostal is noisy in general.

Thanks for your comment in the coming months we will try to change the windows and windows to isolate the sound this is a process which we hope will take time for your next visit back to the hotel and see the changes. With respect to our hostel prices are a bit more expensive because the category of our hotel with respect to the other is first class. With regard to the smoking area will take this in mind and not allow smoking inside the hotel. Thank you for your criticism and hope each day be better and offer the best service.
