We stayed in a room towards the back of the hotel. It was quiet and spacious- plenty of room for a pack-n-play and lots of space for 2 kids playing. The location is just 2 blocks from the main plaza so we were within walking distance to almost everything we wanted to see (churches, flower market, artisan market, museums). The hotel breakfast buffet was delicious and my kids loved sitting in the restaurant, with floor to ceiling windows, watching the morning bustle . There is a great ice cream & sandwich shop (Nice Cream, maybe?) right across from the New Cathedral...check it out!

Very near all the attractions. The staff is awesome. Always ready to answer your questions, call for reservations for you, and give you directions.
The breakfast buffet is outstanding and the rooms are clean, quiet and well furnished : safe, mini-bar, flat screen TV with over 100 chanels and pillow top mattresses. Also a exercise room on the first floor with stram and sanua.
What more could you need?

You can probably find less expensive places to stay in Cuenca, but none are as nice as the El Dorado. They have a great hot and cold buffet breakfast. The staff is friendly and will do everything they possibly can to make your stay enjoyable. They no longer have the Sunday lunch buffet, but you can get good food in the Goda Restaurant and the adjoining sandwich shop. The El Dorado is easy walking distance from the Calderon Park in the historic district. You will enjoy it.

I stayed at the El Dorado Hotel when I visited Cuenca in July 2010. The hotel is centrally located - about a block from the main plaza Calderon. Apart from its location, everything else was below average. The staff were unfriendly and bordered on plain rude. The bell hop did not want to hold our luggage after we checked out and before we left for the airport. He was rude and careless with our bags even after we asked him to be gentle because they had fragile items inside. The staff also did not tell us about the shuttle to the airport, even after we asked about it. The breakfast is ok and although it is included with the room price, it certainly does make up for the staffs general rudeness. The rooms are average - clean but nothing out of the ordinary. Also, the lights on each floor for the rooms our motion activated. So you can walk off the elevator to a completely dark hallway before the sensor picks up your motion and the lights turn on. I would not stay here again.
