Stayed here for 4 nights while visiting Cuenca and the southern Andean highlands. Cannot recommend it highly enough as a good value, atmospheric, place to stay.
It is in a perfect location for walking the central district, on a quiet one-way street, and is decorated in an attractive historical way. The central enclosed courtyard is the restaurant, also beautifully decorated, and there is also a good breakfast room and a bar at street level in the front of the building. The staff were extremely helpful; front desk staff spoke very good English; staff attended to every request (fan, extra pillow, new lightbulb) immediately. Our room was on the top floor, two stairway flights up - **there is no elevator** - so be aware of this if it is a restriction for you. Cuenca elevation is also over 9,000 feet, also to be taken into account. The room was very large, but not especially well furnished. It had 2 double beds, a tiny desk, and an old lounge chair. The lighting was quite dim. The bathroom was very well lit, had a new sink, and the shower was OK (the original glass door was gone and replaced with a shower curtain). It was completely clean with plenty of towels and supplies. As a base of operations for touring, this hotel was just perfect for us.
