What a lovely place! Most of the staff are super-friendly (there's one guy who's not, but he would take care of things when I asked him directly), the rooms are beautiful, and it's in a nice, quiet location within easy walking distance of the action.

I'm usually a hosteller, so this was a nice splurge.

They also have limited, secure parking.

We spent the first two nights in Ecuador at this hotel based on the enthusiastic reviews we read here, and then decided to go elsewhere (Hotel Cartuja). On the up side, our emails prior to arrival were promptly answered with complete information, and the staff was professional. They even accommodated our flight arrival at about 12 midnight local time. The most difficult part was the bed was incredibly hard - there was no give to the mattress at all which didn't bother my husband too much but was untenable for me. It is conveniently located near the main restaurant district, but the walk home at night is through a pretty bad neighborhood, so take a taxi to return. Public transportation to downtown is about a 10 minute walk away.

I just returned from my visit to Ecuador, usually I'll go stay with family but since I was sight seeing in Quito and was staying there for four days we decided to look for a Hostal and we made the perfect choice. I was there with my husband, my 13 yr old son, 3 yr old daughter, my mom, my brother and his girlfriend and from the momemt we walked through the doors we knew we made the right choice. Everyone was helpful and pleasant. We had no problem. The rooms were very clean, breakfast was good and all of our requests were fulfilled. My next trip back to Quito...I will be staying at this Hostal

Intro: My girlfriend and I (25 years old) stayed 4 nights here when we were in Quito. Most days we left early for day trips (Otavalo and Cotopaxi)

I took a chance on this place, in that there were limited reviews, I am hoping with this review this quiet place might get some more exposure.

The Good: Value, Rooms, Awesome Showers, Charm, Comfortable beds, Staff

Our room with a balcony cost $50 a night with breakfast. The room was nice, with a great shower, and was very clean. Although this place is called a hostal, it is really more of a basic hotel. I think an older couple would feel comfortable here as well.

Basically a small hotel, website makes it look bigger than it is. There is always a night guard on duty, and they have to buzz you in.

The OK: Location, Included Breakfast

The Location, it is on a quiet street in Mariscal (Foreigners) but is not in the heart of Mariscal. It takes about a 5-7 min walk to get to the heart of the bars, and restaurants etc.. This may be a great advantage to some. We felt safe walking around during the day to and from the hostal, but the street is dark at night, and not a lot of people, def take a cab when returning from the bars.

The breakfast was average, the eggs were ok. Make sure you ask for coffee with a little milk, otherwise they give you a full cup of hot milk with a very little coffee. This is common throughout Ecuador.

Overall: I highly recommend this place to anyone (young or old) who wants a nice place just out of the heart of Mariscal. If you are someone who wants to be able to walk to the bars at night, then prb stay elsewhere. However the cab ride back at night was never more than $2.

The Bad: Nothing bad about this place

Advice: Owner picked us up at airport in classic 80's mercedes, super friendly staff, easy to book online.
