An inexpensive business hotel very near the airport, we stayed here the night before we flew to Galapagos. The rooms are small and simple, and the bathrooms smell a bit musty. The staff proved to be very helpful, however, and the proximity to the airport makes this a good base if you need to make an early morning flight.

I visited the Hotel Sandmelis for 2 weeks last month. I booked a trip to Ecuador to travel round the country and also visit the Galapagos Islands. I booked by ringing up the Hotel directly - the staff speak very good English and the rates were very affordable, the equivalent to about £20 per night. I recieved a very warm welcome and the immediate surroundings were very pleasant, lovely furnishings and pictures and very clean. The room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable! My room was ensuite. The hotel has only been open a few months and the facilities as a result are immaculate. I found the breakfast to be lovely as well, a full continental was on offer, and the staff were more than happy to accomodate my extra request for fried eggs! Sandmelis was a great base for traveling around the city as it is really well located in the centre of Quito. All in all very impressive!
