“lovely spacious rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2009

Stayed at the Hostal Santa Barbara three times during October, before and after a cruise to the Galapagos Islands and again after a few days to Otavalo and back. We had two different rooms. Both were very spacious and clean, although our second room, which was in a seperate building at the back of the main house was much quieter.
The breakfast was simple but all we needed. We were able to store our luggage each time which was handy. Hostal Santa Barbara is a beautiful old house and would definitely recommend it.

“Delightful spot in Quito”

This was our second stay at the hotel. This is a charming replica colonial home in the Mexican/Spanish style and the rooms were spotless and well appointed. The food in the hotel's Italian restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced (great espresso, too!) Gloria, one of the managers, took very good care of us and was friendly, helpful and gracious. The service in the establishment is superb in every respect. There are some great restaurants within walking distance (Gloria recommended Pim's for lunch, and she was right on) as well as an artisans' market and a terrace behind the Hotel Quito that affords a spectacular view of the valley below. Breakfast, while not extravagant, was very good and the fried eggs were perfect! All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will return to this hotel at the first opportunity. I highly recommend it.

“Very nice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2009

My partner and I stayed in Hotel Santa Barbara for the nights we travelled through Quito on connecting flights and were pleasantly surprised! The building is very authentic, but fresh and clean. The rooms are spotless, and TV has good coverage. On the first night we were given a family room which was very spacious!(Hence the photograph of a room with 3 beds for just one couple.) The staff are extremely helpful with any arrangements / queries etc - we asked when the local supermarket closed and he called them for us. The free internet access is also extremely useful for planning onwards! Close to the airport but not noisy - $5 in a taxi.

Would definately recommend!

“Excellent Quito Hostal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Hostal Santa Barbara for 3 nights in February 2009. The hostal is a beautiful old mansion with a lot of character and charm. We stayed in the two lower level rooms, which were spacious and clean. The back room might be a bit quieter as it is away from the street. The reception staff was very knowledgable and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was the typical eggs, toast, coffee, and juice. Hostal staff were very dependable in arranging transportation at all hours (even 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.). Free internet access was also nice.

I would recommend this hostal to any traveler looking for mid-budget (for Quito) lodging that has an intimate and authentic feel.

“No need to look further; stay here when you're in Quito”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2009

After being cancelled by Los Alpes one day before checking in to Quito and scrambling to find a last minute accomodation, the Santa Barbara confirmed our reservation for three nights...I was concerned. No need at all. This wonderful hacienda was clean, beautiful and had wonderful staff.
They arranged impeccable taxi pick-up (thanks Angel), had very comfortable rooms and a fine Italian restaurant on site. Great accomodations in a good section of Quito at a reasonable price.....stay here.
